198 1 Girls Track Team Sends One Downstate The 1981 Girls Track Team proved to be successful and promising. The team's Conference record was 5-6 against tough competitors. About mid-season, the Huskies acquired 1st place in the Maine North Invitational. Among the outstanding girls was Carolyn Pas- terski, who captured 1st in Conference, 2nd in Dis- tricts, competed downstate and finished 11th - all in the shotput event. Districts proved to be a rewarding meet. jackie Purcell broke the school record jumping 5 '3 in high jump, placing 4th, Shelley Brodeur secured 5th place in long jump. In the 440 yd. open julie joy placed 5th. Monica Wendell took 5th in the 200 meter hurdles, and 6th place for the 100 yd. dash went to Annette Kjeldbjerg. At the end of the season, the freshmen placed 2nd in the Wheeling Freshmen Invitational. This, along with the returning talent, shows definite potential for next year's team, stated Head Coach Terri Swan- son.
