Gymnastics Team Excels In Sta te Competition The 7981 Boy's Gymnastics season proved to be very successful. By winning 1st in Districts, 7st in sectionals, 1st in North Division and 2nd in overall the team showed that hard work pays off On the vault, individuals that did especially well were Kurt Kaunzinger, Tim Paulson and Ken Von Ebers. On the rings, Greg Teets and jeff Klop per- formed exceptionally. Ken Von Ebers did well on floor excercise, while Tom Bray excelled on side horse. Greg Teets was a superb all-around gymnast. All gymnasts were outstanding last season, but the greatest efforts were put forth by jeff K lop and Ken Von Ebers. K en 's accomplishments were recognized by a 2nd place title in state. Once again, the team proved to be a real power- house in the state of Illinois. Softball Has Tough Season The girl's softball team, coached by Mrs. Holm- gren, had a successful season with an overall record of 8-72. They advanced to the Regional Play-offs where they lost to East Leyden, a team that eventual- ly went down state. Thejunior varsity team, coached by Mr. Foster, finished their season with an 8-11 record. The varsity team, made up of three seniors, six juniors, and four sophomores, was led by Co-Cap- tains, Cathy Crews and Kim Shultz. Crews was select- ed by the team as Most Valuable Player and Shultz was elected All-Conference. Other important team members were Mari Brinkman, Susie Hill, Carolyn Sheyker, and jackie Steffens. All of the girls showed much determination throughout the entire season. Coach Holmgren is anxiously awaiting the next season.
