Deaf Ed. Department Growing Hersey's Deaf Ed. Department seems to be getting bigger and bigger. This year it has grown to over eighty students, the biggest it's ever been. The de- partment staff continues to grow also. Teachers new to our Deaf Ed. program are Ruth Cohen, Linda Siers, and Driver Ed. teacher Bud Bornman. New inter- preters are Christy Egan, Diane Sparacio, and Mary Yuill. Pro vide Many Services New required study hall attendance has made the library become a quieter study area. Head librarian, Mr. Olenik stated that the library is much quieter and the kids are more cooperative than in the past. The library staff has been assisted this year by volun- teer students who have spare time during their study hall. Volunteering gives the student a chance to learn about the library and lend a helping hand. The Hersey reference room has become a favorite place for serious research and homework. The room was carpeted at the beginning of the school year which adds to the atmosphere of silence and seren- ity. But, one may still get into some less serious work by checking out some head-phones and tuning in to the FM radio which was a gift from a previous senior class. The Audio-Visual Department provides many ser- vices to the school. Its resources are used at some time in almost every classroom. Equipment found here includes film projectors, slide projectors, over- head projectors, tape players and cameras, just to name a few. by Angie Leonardo Maureen Wenger finds peace and quiet in the library.
