Beth McKenna counts down to success. Why Me? x Coach Bellito helps out his duet. l.E. Team Shows Talent And Creativity The Individual Events Speech Team competes for individual and team awards in different catagories. The various catagories include public speaking, oral interpretation, and acting. The season starts in November and lasts un til Feb- ruary. Some of the tournaments they have compet- ed in include: the Glenbard North High School tour- nament, the Fenton High School tournament and the District 274 tournament. The team went from twenty members last year to ten this year, but they still had an exciting season. Seniors Beth McKenna and Missy Shell, and sopho- more Carolyn K ersemeier all worked in the original oratory Catagory. juniors Diane Lange and Laurey Biegert teamed up on the humourous duet acting Catagory. Sophomore Eric Olsen showed promise in working on original comedy. Deba ters Fight To Prove Their Points! Debate consisted of three seperate teams: Novice, junior Varsity, and Varsity. They competed at tour- naments all around northern Illinois. The team has traveled to tournaments in Rockford, McHenry and Northern Illinois University. They also participated in the District 274 Invitational and the Illinois Speech and Theatre State Debate Invitational. The debators had a slow start, but they improved with practice and the experience they gained in the tournaments. By the middle of the season they were doing a great job. This year's new topic was on improving education ,in elementary and secondary schools. Each debator did research on information for against the subject. Two outstanding debators on the team this year were Chris Soyka and Liz Bartlow. Coach McSherry and assistant coach, Mr. Given, did a fine job with their team. by Linda Leers Debaters enjoy researching their topic. Denise Kavin argues for her side of the Mr. Given gives pointers prior to the de- bate. story. Coach Mc5herry can't believe his ears! Erick Holman reveals the fascinating truth to jennie Zold. S.O.S., sponsored by Mr. Kozlowski, is a community serving organization, Their services, such as senior citizen clean-ups and holiday parties, provide help and entertainment for those in need. This year there has been a great number ofpartici- pating students. Among the members are presidents Mary Boettcher and Mary Odonnell and officers Mike Bracher, Chris Erlon, Lea Newren, and joan Spiel.
