. . . Helps Others . The National Honor Society has proven to be an important club at john Hersey High School. The members have concentrated their efforts on helping others. To become a member of the N.H.5. a grade point average of 4.5 must be maintained. Members are required to participate in 3 out of 6 activities throughout the year. This year the Honor Society has completed many outstanding community services. Members have participated in the annual Blood Drive, Parent- Teacher conferences and have visited children in L various local hospitals. Mr. Haskell Brown and Mr. john Boehm are spon- sors for the Honor Society. Deba ters Fight To Prove Their Points! Debate consisted of three seperate teams: Novice, junior Varsity, and Varsity. They competed at tour- naments all around northern Illinois. The team has traveled to tournaments in Rockford, McHenry and Northern Illinois University. They also participated in the District 274 Invitational and the Illinois Speech and Theatre State Debate Invitational. The debators had a slow start, but they improved with practice and the experience they gained in the tournaments. By the middle of the season they were doing a great job. This year's new topic was on improving education ,in elementary and secondary schools. Each debator did research on information for against the subject. Two outstanding debators on the team this year were Chris Soyka and Liz Bartlow. Coach McSherry and assistant coach, Mr. Given, did a fine job with their team. by Linda Leers Debaters enjoy researching their topic.
