Ir-f A Carol Macnamara receives her diploma Students, U.S. Hostages Freed I1 Same Day This year's graduation ceremony was held in Her- sey's theater on January 20, with 52 students from the class of '81 participating. Mr. Michael Kozanecki, a teacher at Hersey, was 'chosen by the students themselves to speak at the ceremony. His speech had many Words of Wisdom for the grads as well as thoughts regarding the past years at Her- sey and the many years to come in their futures. Mr. Kozanecki also made the humorous comparison that there were 52 students graduating and 52 hos- tages from Iran being freed on the same day. The Invocation was made by Heidi Rendtorff and the Benediction by Phil Mala to, both graduating sen- iors. U 1 V Q Merry Chrlstmas H ersey Style! Hersey's annual Christmas Assembly was held in the gym on Friday, December 19, and proved to be a great success. The Various groups were Very devoted and put many hours of practice and hard work into this performance. Seven groups participated in the assembly. The Pomberets performed to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer , and Orchesis danced to a Jackson Brown sound. The Color Guard performed for the hrst time this year. A.FiS. displayed Christmas customs in dif- ferent countries. On Stage sang and acted out the song Fruitcake. Student Council members did a Skit to The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, with the help of Mr. Boehm as the Grinch. They also organized and pulled together the assembly. To conclude the assembly, the choir, faculty, and alumni sang Han- del's Hallelujah Chorus in accompanyment with the band. in terball urnabout Celebra tes Good im es The winter dance this year was en titled Win terball Turnabout and was held on January 31, 1981, in the U Hersey Cafeteria. The entrance into the cafeteria was Mefk Kmefy and Jennifer Cfeeef danced the mghf ewey- a gateway into a winter wonderland of snow, trees and snowmen. The dancing started at 8:00 and ended at 11:00, Most of the couples took advantage of this dancing time, as Kicks supplied the music for the evening. At 9:00 p.m. all the couples started slow dancing to the theme song, Let Me Love You Tonight. Following that, the 1981 Winterball!Turnabout Court was an- nounced by Mark Kmety, The court consisted of Frank de Alba, Theo Denaxes, Bruce Erickson, Da ve Gilbreth and Dan Kochevar, who later went up on stage and began to sing while many others joined in. The night ended with couples going to elegant restaurants. I t was another very successful dance, and many thanks go to the Senior Student Council members and advisor, Mr. Blim, who sponsored it. by Rose Uva Some couples were very serious at the WinterballfTurnabout dance.
