FAITH Have faith in the things you do and the decisions you make, As your faith will guide you each step you take. Be a strong person and build a solid base. I've Been Thinking About You As we walked home from school, I heard music coming from the park. Tracy and Michelle had to go straight home, but Ijust had to find out where the music was coming from. As I walked up to the small crowd gathered there, the music stopped and the crowd started breaking up. When the crowd dispersed, I saw a boy about my age, sitting on the ledge of the park fountain. He was holding a guitar. Hi, I said, What was the crowd here for? I was playing the guitar and singing, but I ha ve to be going now, so I stopped and the crowd left, he answered. I was disappointed. I wanted him to play a song for me. I guess he was reading my mind, because just then he started to strum out a tune. I knew the song, and lost in my own world of dreams, I started singing with him. If I had known I had been singing, I 'd ha ve been totally embarrassed, but the music stopped before I realized it. I just stood there wondering why I 'd never heard this guy before, but he interrupted my thinking and said, Have you ever thought about recording? You ha ve a really nice voice. I started laughing, but then stopped m yself realiz- ing that I migh t hurt this guy's feelings if he really did think I sang well. So I just said Thanks, and started to walk away. You don't believe me, do you? he asked. I I turned around and stared him straight in the eyes and proclaimed No. When he eventually asked me to sing a song with him, after all our little introduc- tions: name and so on, I believed him. Every nigh t, Mike Ithat's his namel came over and we'd write songs and music on my back porch. I 'd always had a kind of knack for writing. I wan ted to be a writer for a newspaper when I grew up. One nigh t, Mike didn 't show up. I got reall y worried because I knew he'd call if he were able. I was get- ting ready to call the police station when a policeman came to the door. Miss Julia Wells, please? he asked, as I opened the door. I felt my face drain of color. I knew something had happened to Mike. 'Tm Julia, I barely managed to squeak. Mom had come in then but stayed out of the conver- A. TAX .V t . 4, - M. V .if -. -5 afxijjx ' 4'. gif-,j':,:,:,'... ,' V , f IF' 'vii 2 .,-ff' 'fr L 1 . '55, ' W! Mike didn 't have any relatives, so when he kept re- peatingmy name and they found a letter in hispocket addressed to me, they came straight to me. Mike was unconscious, and the doctor said he had done something bad to his back. He had to be trans- ferred to a special hospital where they dealt with those kinds of injuries. I opened the letter that was in his pocket and it read I 've Been Thinking About You the title of his new song. I started to cry. I lost a ton of Weight and my grades went down so much, that my mom wanted me to see a psychiatrist. I refused because a psychiatrist couldn 't bring Mike back to me. After about two months, Mike wrote and told me he was coming home. I ran straight downstairs and grabbed myself some munchies, so I 'd gain back the weight that I 'd lost. By the time Mike got home, I waspretty much back to normal. Mike came over and as he walked to the door, I ran out to greet him. I got a plaque to welcome him home. He opened it when we got into thelliving room. It said.' Dear Michael, I just wanted to say that when you were gone, it was the worst time of my life. Please don't ever leave me again, and remember: I 've been thinking about you. Love forever and ever, Julia Hn now sitting in our den. I did become a writer, and Mike and I were married. We sang during our spare time for local clubs, but I spent most of m y time writing. We had two, beautiful daughters, Susan and Lisa, and we all lived a full and happy life. Mike died about three months ago, at the age of 74. As I read the plaque sitting on the mantle of the fireplace, I can still remember what he said to me as he drifted off to a permanent sleep. Julia, my time has come. You have brought me nothing but joy and love in all the years I 've known you. Please don 't mourn for me, for we'll meet again someda y. And, Julia, always remember: I 'll be think- ing about you. by Kristen Stake '84

FRIENDSHIP Friends endure time together, with all the specialness that should be shared by two. Friends touch forever what has passed, the memories they once knew! Friends are as new as the morning air, sunshine, and flowers. Friends are as true as the warm smiles that comfort the painful hours. Friends share a heart filled with love and laughter, And while still apart the feelings remain, dropping simple tears after. Friends could change everything as you and I. All the special times we bring together help us get by . . . by Carolyn Pasterski '82 'Ziff . 73 it JANE HOBBS '82 9 v '2gg-nuuv, fa, '15 if . I .V ' , 'fb A 11 f 1 lf,-P 1. N. , 'I ,. 1' . I will give you my laughter, along with my tears, I will give you my hopes and give you my fears. I will give you my days along with my nights, I will give you my good times, give you my Hghts. I will give you my kisses, soft and warm, I will give you sunlight instead of storm. I will give you my moods, good and bad, I will give you everything I hope for, everything I had. I will give you my fantasies, give you my dreams, I will give you my plans, give you my schemes. I will give you everything I live for, everything I treasure, I will give you a love impossible to measure. I will give you all of those things, it's true, because I am so in love with you. by Gina Stachniak '81
