I feel the 1980-81 yearbook staff has tried and succeeded to capture special moments for all of us to hold onto for future years. This yearbook would not have been possible without the student and faculty bodies, who managed to jump in front of a yearbook photographer in hopes of appearing in this book. Special thanks are in order for some special people. I would like to have this opportunity to thank Mr. Dennis Eder of American Yearbook Company, and also Mr. and Mrs. Norb Dompke and their Root Pho- tographers for their outstanding photography and service. STONE HEART I czan read about good works and abide by them as est I can. But if I have a stone heart, all my efforts will crumble like sand. I can be considerate of others and say nice thing to make people feel good, Big if I have a stone heart, my words could easily e misunderstood. I can listen to the advice of others and still keep a smile on my face, But if I have a stone heart, my mind will be closed and those words will have no resting place. I can laugh and cry with others when the curtain opens and the play begins. But if I have a stone heart, my emotions lose while HU' talent in drama wins. I can give a gift to someone or open one just the same, But if I have a stone heart, those gifts are taken and I have lost the game. I can smile and love the world forever until I fall down on my knees, But if I have a stone heart, that love remains locked up for no one else to see. I can live with this cold, stone heart and let it weigh me down, But what happens to me when it cracks after it has hit the ground. I can chip away the stone, But only I can do this, alone. by Kelly Werth '81 MARI HANSEN '83 WORLD, WHY MUST MAN BE THIS WA Y? Why can man not live in peace? Why can 't hate, war, and misery cease? Is equality a dream, And brotherhood a mystery? We've been searching for the answer through the pages of history. If two men were left standing with two different views, It's not a questions of right or wrong, The truth is - they both lose. World, is there any hope? Unfortunately, nope. by Sue Cohen '83
