English ine rts Division Challenges Hersey Students The Englishfl-Wine Arts Division offers instuction in the areas of English, art, and music. The faculty in this division grewlarger this year with the addition of Mr. Hetzel, bringing the total to twen ty-two teachers. Besides adding a new teacher, a new course was ad- ded to the curriculum for 1980-1981. Advanced Place- ment English was offered to those studen ts interested in preparing for a test which offers college credit for work completed in high school. The E.F.A. Division once again directed many ac- tivities and programs. The Debate Team, coached by Mr. McSherry, and the Individual Speech Team coached by Mr. Bellito, are two speech activities in- cluded in this department. The Drama department, under the direction of Mr. Drouin, put to use a lot ofyoung talent and came up with three full length plays and a night of one act plays. Journalism is another area in the division which deserves recognition. This year the Correspondent, the school newspaper, was advised by Mr, McDonell, and Mr. Kozanecki continued to direct the publica tion of the award winning yearbook Endeavor. An area of the department which con tin ues to draw attention throughout the state is music. Mr. Rich and Mr. Hetzel directed the bands, and Mr. Turasky di- rected the choral groups as well as On Stage . Both the band and choral groups earned many awards dur- ing the year. Two noteworthy accomplishments of the English- fFine Arts Division were the Arts Unlimited Pro- gram, which was a month long festival of the arts, and the publication of the literary art supplement at the back of the yearbook, which included student art, writing, and musical composition. This large division adds many things to the school and it would not be the success that it is without the dedication of many studen ts and teachers involved in this division. by Kerry Hogan 212 74555 agile, 9' if C 1'i-All A9 .
