arching Huskies High Step Their Way To Pasadena California! I 7 The John Hersey High School marching Huskies depart- ed from O'Hare International Airport for Los Angeles, Cal- ifornia, on December 30, 1974. Their objective was to par- ticipate in the 86th Tournament of Roses Parade. The day of the parade was long indeed! The band was required to be at the parade route at 6 a.m. Despite the early hour and the long drive from the motel to the parade site, the Huskie band was fired up and full of enthusiasm as they turned the corner to face network television camer- as and millions of television viewers. The Pride of Illi- nois made it big on national television. Through the help of countless donors, the band raised in excess of 350,000.00 for their trip expenses. Marching in this prestigious parade on January 1, 1975, was not the band's only activity. The band spent two days in Ana- heim, California, right outside the gates of Disneyland. The band also toured the construction site of some of the beautiful floats that were in the parade. The band toured Universal Studios and took a ride down the famous Sunset Strip. Viewing some homes of great Hollywood stars was also a high point. The band spent some free time at Knott's Berry Farm and the wonderful world of Disneyland. The band also marched in a parade down the main street of Disneyland. The final day was spent at Lion Country Safari with lunch at the shore of the Pacific Ocean. The flight home to Chicago brought many tired band members back to the wintery world of Illinois, but the sun Mr. and Mrs. Goins board the plane for California. Emie Wagner and Liz Malecki enjoyed themselves on the plane and fun of California will always remain deep in their memories. by Jana Mountz The marching Huskies show their colors at Disneyland.
