Chris Wendell Voted Queen Homecoming week started off with Monday being class day. Each person wore something representing his or her own class. Tuesday was T-shirt day, also hall decorations put up the night before were judged. Wednesday was a combination of button day and grub day. At the begin- ning of the school day Thursday, the King and Queen candidates were pre- sented to the student body. Thursday was also dress-up day, and coronation was held that night. Queen candidates were Nancy Gal- lagher, Bobby Finch, Sarah Kaull, Patti lacoby, and Chris Wendell. King candi- dates were Marty Friel, Pat Hart, Scott Robertson, jeff Samaras, and Dennis Fitzpatrick. Chris Wendell and Pat Hart were voted king and queen. West Side Story ends in tragedy as Maria holds her clying Tony. 'West Side Story' Thrills Audiences West Side Story was the second summer musical that was performed by students from other schools along with Hersey students. Four adults from the Des Plaines Theatre Guild also had parts in the show. The musical was performed August 4 and 5. The plot of the show is almost identi- cal to that of Romeo andluliet. Tony, a member of the jets, and Ma- ria, whose brother is the leader of the Sharks, a Puerto Rican group, fall in love despite the differences between the two groups. Prejudices and battles keep the lov- ers apart until, finally, in one quarrel, Bernardo, leader of the Sharks, is killed by Tony. The hatred between the jets and Sharks deepens and soon Tony is dead also. There is sorrow for both groups now and under this common grief they are finally brought together. Another fight breaks out between the Sharks and the lets. Year In Review 19
