JV Grapplcrs Finish Year Undcfcatcd The Hersey JV wrestlers wouldn't let themselves go unnoticed in the shadow of their varsity counterparts as they swept all of their dual meets with a clean slate, 12-0. The JV's started their year beating Elm- wood Park, West Leyden and Forest View. The lone dark spot in the JV season came when East Leyden edged them out of first place in a quadrangular meet. However, the JV's bounced right back and beat teams from Arlington, Palatine, Fremd, Glenbard North and Wheeling. The team ended its season with wins over Prospect, Conant and Elk Grove. Row 2: Coach Tom Porter, Manager Dean Hill, Bob Ver- rapplers Take Coveted State Title The Hersey Husky varsity grapplers will long be remembered for having brought to Arlington Heights the state title, a feat un- matched by any other Mid-Suburban league squad. The District meet was the first hurdle on the way to the state trophy. Don Robin- son, Brad Smith, Jim Battaglia, Tad DeLuca, Bob Vercruysse, Pat Teefey and Kevin Immel all advanced to the Sectional Tourney. Surviving Sectional action and advancing to the State meet were Battaglia, Smith and DeLuca. Both Battaglia and Smith won the state titles in their weight classes while DeLuca battled to a respectable Fourth place finish. The team went undefeated in regular season competition.
