Row 3: Matt Loriss, Bill Regan, Jeff Miller, Frank Cirrincione, Pat Hart, Dean Taggart, .IV Gridders Take Conference Title For the second consecutive year Hersey's JV gridders took the title in the Mid-Subur- ban conference: this time with an unblemished 7-0 record to run their streak to 15 games. As a bonus to JV fans this year the squad let only one opponent cross its goal after having shut-out its first five rivals. In the opener, the Huskies blanked the team of Elk Grove, 14-0, followed by more decisive wins over Forest View, 21-0: Pala- tine, 30-Og Arlington, 27-03 and Fremd, 33-0. The lone score against the JV eleven came at the hands of Wheeling as the Huskies erased the Cats' hopes for conference recog- nition, 9-6. Picking up their momentum, the Huskies shut out Conant 27-0. Soph Matt Loriss led the league's scorers with 36 individual points. Husky Bruce Frase illustrates the kind of dogged de- termination that it takes to be named All-Conference two years in succession. Halfback Bill Ludwigsen follows a block thrown by Steve Koelsch. Varsity Griddcrs Finish With 4-4 Finishing strong, the varsity gridders were able to grab a second place in their section of the Mid-Suburban league and a portion of third place in the overall standings. The Huskies started their campaign by losing to a strong eleven from Viator's and another to Elk Grove, but thrilled a Homecoming crowd the next week by trounc- ing Forest View, 48-7. This was follow-by a win over Palatine, 14-6. In succeeding weeks, the Huskies fell to the Cards of Arlington and were edged by Fremd, 15-14. The Huskies closed out their season by drubbing Wheeling, 32-7, and knocking off Conant, 20-6. At season's end, Bruce Frase, Tom Brant- ner, Ken Morales and Tom White were named to the All-Conference team. HERSEY 14 ST. In ensuing weeks after the twin losses the first two games, the sophs went on to beat teams from Forest View, 14-63 Palatine, 16-143 Arlington, 12-8: Fremd, 32-143 Wheel- ing, 6-03 and Conant, 20-0. Leading scorer for the sophs was Mike Bova who tallied 42 individual points to place him fourth among the 1eague's leaders. HERSEY 12 ST.
