The Class of 1955 has been no exception as far as the parties, banquets, and proms are concerned. And we have definitely had our share of hard work on the money making projects which we hoped would yield enough profit so that we could make our trip to Washington. However, it isn't the parties and the hard work that make the class, but the individual, his personality, and his character. In 1942, eleven students entered the first grade at Brooksville Grammar School. Kent Looper was one of those who later became a staunch member of the band and was even then liked by all for his pleasing personality. Mary Sikes, with her glossy black hair, is a true southerner. Wayne Thaggard is one of the most artistic members of this class Cjust look at one of his drawings and you'll see whyj. Margaret Hinkley, who is always quiet and ladylike is one of those who got her mari' while still in high school. And of course we must mention Cecil Miller, president of everything and just as handsome now as he was when he was six years old. Gail Bennett has changed a lot since those days when she was struggling with her A. B. C's. Gay Burdin is still the same friend- ly and co-operative girl. Thomas Martin knows what he thinks and wastes no time telling us. He and Jimmy Crossan have this one trait in common. An at- tractive flag twirler in the H. H. S. band is Lillie Hazelton. Completing the list of those who have survived the long twelve years in Brooksville in Lamar Chapman. Mention hunting or his mother's cooking and he gets a bright gleam in his eye. After one year of trials and tribulations these stalwart few passed into the second grade where a tiny addition was made to the class. But this little girl, Harriet Brinkley, soon proved that although small, she was friendly and unafraid of bugs. Freddy Law also joined the class this year with a wonderful talent for making friends. Wayne Patterson, one of the captains of the 1954 football team didn't notice girls way back in the fourth grade when he came here but they noticed him even then. And now 8 years later they are still noticing him. Jimmy Allen joined our class that year and was a short plump little boy. He now has the best build in the class and has become superior in all sports. Luggin he big bass horn in the band is Erank Srrnth, who has been here for the past years. In the sixth grade Brian qifrenchyp Rungeling came to Brooksville. His nickname has some connection with the fact that he came from England but so far no one has been able to figure it out. That same year, two fair haired girls became members of the class. Priscilla Mueller was the May Queen in a play and is still out front as drum major of the band? Fidella Purdin showed up at about the same time. How can we forget John B-artkot Every class has a brain and we are proud to claim John as ouify' In the 7th grade we were moved to the high school building. Among the wide eyed 7th graders walking around H, H, S. waslane L96 Snow. MOV- ing here from Tampa, she soon instituted a program for cleaning out the old swimming pool for weiner roasts. A lot of fun ended when it was destroyed. The great city of Spring Lake, Florida produced beautiful, dark haired, Elneta Whitehurst, Solon Lycurgus Brown, and Annette Mountain. At that time Solon was neither dark haried nor beautiful, but was as big around as he was tall and he talked continuously. lt's hard to believe that the tall slender boy we call Solon is the same person. Annette has changed her name to Allen since then, but she is still a wizard with the piano. I 1 v sa .Q x K V Q .gm 1 ,

Did someone mention the name of Morris Jackson? Yes, he joined the class in the 7th grade too. The bow legged cowboy of the class of '55 came that year too. Of oucrse, he is none other than Billy Waldron. Another arrival in the 7th grade was Eugene Peterson. He will probably turn out to be one of our most prosperous agriculturists. And so these students managed to make it to the 8th grade still intack and sane after one year at H. I-l. S. There we gained quiet, shy Pete Banack. He's certainly changed since then. Shirley Langworthy came down from West Virginia to join us and later became captain of the cheerleaders. Leona Jerni- gan with her bright red hair, also became a member of our class that year. At lastl We were Rats , The great event of that year was, of course, Rat Day. What weird creatures we werel The peace and quiet of the best be- haved class in school ended with the advent of Jimmy Weatherford, the class wit. His favorite pastime became teasing Janice Maaogek about Andy. Jan- ice joined the class that year too. Robert Ritchf' the Wangelicn preacher's son and Harry Lambert, who was not so angelic, became members of our class that eventful year. Robert Segler also moved here from Tampa that year. Next came our Sophomore year and Robert Durka. Robert immediately became famous for his drawings of the girls in the class. Joan Hrivnak is still as sweet as she was then. Clg3VC the Basketball team a thrill when she proved to be a very able forward. Alden Tucker, our Cuban gave the Spanish students an inferiority complex because of his mastery of that language. f'a,LSmiLlLmoved up from Tampa that year. Despite her record for having more illnesses than anyone in the class, she managed to get a beautiful diamond from the love of her life. Q And then we were Juniors. Somehow we gained a reputation for being the stingiest class in school but we still managed to put on a wonderful prom and banquet. Elaine Knight showed up that year and was immediately crown- ed Miss H. H. S, Betty Jo Weaver moved here also that year and soon became an established member of the class. Upon her arrival, Peggy Dalton donated to the class her beautiful face and blond hair. Late in the year, Jim Colson arrived from Ocala and caused all the girls to start swooning. Somehow or other these determined souls finally became Seniors. Sherra Mashburn was very shy when she first came, but soon overcame this and did a wonderful job of playing her guitar during the senior's chapel program. Robert Trowell said to himself, I'm going to graduatel so, he joined our class. Richard Houston came along and although he didn't say much, joined the band and became a member of the dishwashing crew at the senior dinners. Bobby Boyd was in our class in grammer school, but moved to Jacksonville and later returned to H. H. S. to graduate. And now as our graduation draws near we look back over the years and see how we have changed and we know that in the years to come we will change even more. Our pa th will splitg some will go into the armed services, some to college, some to homes and families and some to work. And yet all of us will look back with fond memories of our school days and often we will think of our friends and classmates from Hernando High School. ., 'ig I 35 firm' If v AJ H. 'TV ig.
