We. the class of nineteen eighty-eight, fondly dedicate our yearbook to two men who have greatly influenced our lives: Mr. Paul Murphy and Mr. Russell Clukey. Mr. Paul E. Murphy. Director of Guidance and Good Friend, was brought up in Old Town, where he attended St. Josephs School. He later graduated from John Bapst. He received his B.S. in Education from UMO in 1966 and his M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling in 1967. Mr. Murphy had a number of outstanding jobs to his credit with the most familiar being from 1967-72 as a youth counselor for the State of Maine Employment Security Commission. From 67-70, he did his first tour of duty at Hermon High School as a social studies teacher and department head. From '78 until the present. Mr. Murphy has been Boys’ State Director. During this time. Mr. Murphy was teaching in the Bangor System. He returned to Hermon in '83 as the Director of Guidance and Counseling. He directed the chess club to five successful seasons and had the energy to teach a class at the Bangor Adult Education Center. Mr. Murphy had past political involvement as a member of the Human Rights Commission, a member of the Representative Assembly and a voting member of the Democratic State Convention. He has been a long-standing Boy Scout Counselor. On a more personal side. Mr. Murphy has a wide variety of hobbies including fishing, hunting, scoring the Hermon ball games, and officiating the junior high softbalTprogram. collecting items at the local dumps, continually improving upon his intellect and wit. while being incapable of throwing out even a single piece of paper. Through this dedication, we would like to express our admiration of Mr. Murphy and our gratitude for all his inspiration and support. Mr. Russell Clukey was the kind of principal that the students and faculty alike could calf a friend. He was always willing to lend a shoulder to lean on. to help carry the heavy loads, to give advice, and to always do these tasks with a sincere wisdom that could not be doubted. To his students and co-workers. Mr. Clukey was always available for sharing joy. We thank you. Mr. Russell Clukey, for sympathizing and even empathizing with us all — no matter the situation. We appreciate your dedication to us more than you could ever know.
