Magazine Drive TO MAKE AMENDS In a small dark room behind locked doors I rot. they say I'm a kook and keep Me isolated. Huh! I know too much they think I might tell. You see, we've ruined the world It's a mess. we're the only ones who kill for fun or fight wars over race and do you know why? Because we are insane. Not just us behind locked doors, but all of us. Now do you see why they're afraid of what might happen if one brainwashed person found out the truth and tried to make amends by blowing up Earth Like Me! Julie King '79 Is time forever? Said Cathy? Time Is eternal, but Mind you, Eternity concerns the Earth, not man. This is true for Every Race, creed or color of man. Never shall we reach immortality. After winter comes the spring and like the tree's Leaves, men are bom and die with the changing seasons. Lee Anne White '76 66 MINORITIES People say that minorities are groups who are treated as inferior, or are small in number, or are made that way. But I'm just one. Am I a minority? And I can't do some things as well as other people can Does that mean I'm inferior? Minorities are people who see themselves as inferior, or small, or picked on, But if Individuals could stand up, and prove to the world that they are just as good We'd forget the word. Joyce Little '79 POEM FOR A FRIEND You're stubborn as a mule quite bawky and ignorant. You really think you're cool the way you toss your blonde hair out of your eyes. And the way you walk around like you were marching in a parade. I must admit, (from what I've seen), that you are a pretty good runner. Your stride is not bad for one with such skinny legs. In the old days you could be seen, hanging around the fire station, waiting for a call. You were always ready. In the summer you can be seen in the hay field. Trying to be useful, but mostly getting in the way. When dinner time rolls around you are always there. Eating enough for two horses. I wonder why you're so thin. With all the food you put away. Maybe you're just out of shape. You're not old—sixteen is quite young, campared to some. Now behave yourself, that fooling around is for the inexperienced. You should know better than to try to hurt anyone. You're really kind when you want to be. There that's better. Here's your apple; in your stall you go. Goodnight Goldie. See you tomorrow. Ellen Stevenson 76 FOOTBALL Great thousands of fans at the stadium Eleven on each side playing the game The people in the stands warm on hot rum A different Sunday, sport's the same On the field, making plays, they have success. They have shortcomings, fans begin to boo All of the hot dogs , running in tom dress Bone crunching, heads a-breaking; things to do A mess of cheerleaders at the half-time Four quarters in the game, two left to play A load of dusty suits of dirt and lime. The losers mad, the winners have their say The thousands fill the cashier's golden cup And it's the promoter that cleans up. Dale Hatch 78 A graveyard upon a hill, So lonely sitting there, so still. The wind moans and groans but never dies; The sounds of death are wailing cries. 1 came upon a giant stone, ! couldn't read the name. Until the full moon brightly shone, My name and it's the same. 1 ran and ran until 1 fell, And could not catch my breath I hit my head upon a rock And heard the sounds of death. Now I'm scorching below your feet, Eager to devour. You will know when your time has come It'll tick away by the hour. As I entered the entrance to the cave, I was stopped by the eerie echoing of my own footsteps. There were massive colonies of bats flying wildly about. A cold draft sent icy chills to every part of my body. In won- der I glazed at the cathedral high ceilings, so high you could stack 8 boxcars on end and still have enough room to stand on top. Dangling, rope-like moss hangs like slimy snakes waiting for their prey. And hundreds of elephant-like boulders lie scattered like marbles. And off in the distance there was the sound of thundering waterfalls. Ah, yes, in spite of all this, this is paradise. Randy Bates '76 Now come and heed my warning well, Or finished you will be. You'll end up in the cold, cold, ground, But be hot as hell like me. Ronda Savage '78 AN EXPERIENCE OF ITS OWN It was a cool, calm, starry night as I walked alone along the endless beach. I could hear the surf's angry roar breaking sharply against the jagged rocks and the seashells echoing their past. The boats on the bay were sitting patiently on their reflections just passing time. My eyes were hypnotized upon the glassy images, while my thoughts became illusions slowly drifting helplessly over the horizon. As my imagination turned to reality, I suddenly noticed the tide letting go of the beach an inch at a time and I realized how the tide is like each day, letting go of my life.........
