Hermon, finished second in the Pendale, better than the 1970 season winning over Bucksport, Ellsworth, Hampden and John Bapst. The Hawks finished behind Orono who ’ ended as State Oiamps in Class C. The Hawks did quite well in the regional, bunching their first five mnners Jim Dunivan, Steve Crosby, Randy Ely, Tony Peabody, and Darrell Garnett in places 30, 32, 34, 35, and 37 respectively. This performance, however, could only gain them 8th place with eleven schools competing. The loss of seniors Steve Crosby, Jim Dunivan, Darrell Garnett, and Dan Kuck is sure to be noticed next year. 54 the hustling is good. VARSITY BASKETBALL KNEELING: B. Pickard, G. Duplisea, J. St. Louis This year’s varsity team had a tough season. With only two lettermen returning, Coach Niles Nelson had a lot to do in order to get the players in shape for the tough season ahead. The first game Hermon played was a 55-52 home game victory over Greenville High School. As the season progressed Hermon had several tough games. The teams that gave us the thoughest competition were Medomak and Camden-Rockport, the first and second teams in their class. The remaining games belonged to either team into the last minutes of the game. Next year Coach Nelson is looking forward to the tournament with four lettermen returning to the team. This year's team had seniors: Dave St. Louis, Jerry Clark, and Dick Small; four juniors on the team: Art Terrill, Doug Stubbs, Ray Leavitt, Steve Hodsdon; followed by four promising sophomores: Tony Reynolds, Steve Demmons, Randy Hodsdon and Randy Douglass. Next year's team will have lost four seniors, but with a lot of hard work and practice, it should prove to be another good year. The Unfinished Letter It was one of those quiet days when the sun wasn't shining and no one was home. She thought it would be a good time to write a letter to one of her friends who lived in the next town. Little did she know' that her friend no longer existed. She started writing and reminiscing about the good times they'd had together. She recalled all of the bas- ketball games they had attended and all of the celebrating they had done whether the team had won or lost. She wrote of the time they had gone to a dance and never once got to dance, and how they both laughed. She sat there just staring out the window thinking about her friend and their good times. If there was anywhere to go or anything to do, they did it together, as close friends usually do. Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the telephone. It was a call for her. She stood by the phone with a look of grief, then terror. She had just been told that her friend had been killed in an automobile accident. Returning to the desk, she realized there was really no point in finishing the letter. Her friendship had ended. With tears running down her cheeks, and grief in her heart, she thought of how much she really loved her lost friend. You never realize how much you love your friends until you lose them. Donna L. Though the time is running, we want to live each hour, Your ideals that have brought us together will be oure, The examples created are impressions on our minds Wishing only that we had more time. Every year these doors bring new ones near Memories of those gone will be here-will be here. As the last day passes with its lonely setting sun We remember friendships and all that we have done, Little do we know what life has in store June 16th will come and we'll belong here no more.
