LITERARY... We, the people of America, have more things to use and enjoy than do people of the rest of the world. There was no secret to the creation of abun- dance, nor was it luck that transformed America into a well-to-do nation. WE, THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA One element was natural resources; second, a whole, ingenious, and adven- turous people, willing to work and take risks for the things they wanted; and third, an economic system that encouraged the people. The United States is a democratic nation and will continue to be so if “We, the People of America, continue to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity, do ordain and establish this Constitution,” which took effect in 1789 and has been so successful for the United States of America.
