There was no secret to the creation of abun- dance, nor was it luck that transformed America into a well-to-do nation. WE, THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA One element was natural resources; second, a whole, ingenious, and adven- turous people, willing to work and take risks for the things they wanted; and third, an economic system that encouraged the people. The United States is a democratic nation and will continue to be so if “We, the People of America, continue to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity, do ordain and establish this Constitution,” which took effect in 1789 and has been so successful for the United States of America. E. Lindsey ’57 HERMON HIGH Hermon High School is our name, Fearless of future, on to fame. Success is our goal to be Since rebuilt in fifty-three. In winter, basketball unfurls. Played by many boys and girls. In spring baseball is begun; Last year we the trophy won. Our boys’ lasting credit deserve. Especially those who’re in reserves. The girls are there without delay Glee Club, Economics, and F. H. A. At Graduation after they’ve parted, They remember Hermon High was where they started. M. Duplisea ’58 Compliments of Dr. A. G. Hall: “From you. You said it was H to O.” Mrs. Allen: “What do you want to take your cod liver oil with to- night?” M. Allen: “With a fork.” N. Perry: “Did you say Joe’s dashound was dead?” K. Robinson: “Oh no, I just said he started to run around a tree and met his end.” J. Pinkham: “Mrs. Smith had triplets and two weeks later had twins.” E. Overlook: “Impossible!” J. Pinkham: “Not at all—one triplet died.” D. Simpson was busily engaged with a spade in digging the wheels of his car out of the mud. K. Carle (observing him mopping the perspiration from his face) : “Stuck in the mud?” D. Simpson : “No, my car just died and I’m burying it.” Mr. Davis (Chemistry class) : “This gas is deadly poison. What, steps would you Lake if it exploded ?” P. Jellerson: “Long ones.” HOW TRUE At Hermon High we’re noisy. We’re always on the go. Wherever there’s a rampage We’ll be there you know. But when it comes to studying Our school has got ’em beat. ’Cause really we’re the greatest When sleeping at our seat. F. H. A. OFFICERS Treasurer, S. Andrews; President, D. Light; Secretary, M. I’ve been wondering about the real reason B. W. bought his car and where he goes most of. the time in it ... It seems to me R. T.’s car sees more of the ditches about our fair town than the roads . . . Who is the sole sup- porter of our Seniors’ candy sales? Could it be B. P.’s? . . . B. C. why do you keep your eye on Mr. Bemiss in study hall and jump at his beck and call? . . . What does breaking pencils have to do with love making, any- way, S. G. and S. C.? . . . G. B. what do you think of girls that give cold sores? . . . W’hy does J. G. hound her phone every night? . . . Just what do the Bangor girls have that the Hermon girls don’t, huh, Senior boys? . . . (Boy, Bangor is busy this year! Or is it Hermon?) . . . Why are the 8th grade boys always fighting? Maybe it’s J. J. . . . How come S. G. is on detention so much? Could it be fooling with Lhe boys in class . . . Where the Junior girls failed a certain Senior took over. D. L. could give you a few lessons, girls . . . Why is J. P. always anxious for 11:30 A. M. to arrive? I’m sure it isn’t for lunch . . . There must be a big attraction at M.C.I. Ask D. F. and she’ll tell you . . . Did the chicken thieves enjoy their stolen merchandise or didn’t they get any of it? . . . Whose the terror of the Junior class hidden under those sophisticated glasses? . . . E. B. seems to have made up his mind this time. Must be D. K. . . . There seems to be a very happy foursome in the Junior Class . . . What Senior boy breaks the speed record because of burglar alarms? . . .
