Hello, Doctor Jones? This is Missus Rastus Johnson, thas' right, used to be Lily Jackson.-Rastus' powerful sick, doctor.-No, it can't be somethin' he et. Why no, doctor, just a couple hamburgers and a half a chicken and some roast beef and five- six pieces of cake and pie and three dishes of ice cream. Naw zir, can't be nothing he drunk, neither: jus' a couple 'o quarts of that beer and a fifth of gin an' a big jar of lemonade and two-three cokesg that's every bit he drunk. Where '? Oh, yes, down at that amusement park. Rastus' head hurts too, yeah, his head, where he fall out of the roller-coaster and hit the door. The water fixed that though, yes, the water, when he fell out of chute de chute into the pond. Sa- funniest thing I ever saw, stayed down five minutes before they could haul him out. CHARLES GORDON '45 ' THE SCARE Cautiously Bob Arnold opened the door of his room and peered into the dark hall. Hea1'ing nothing, he stole noiselessly down the stairs, his shoes in one hand and a flash- light in the other. Swiftly he unfastened the bolt on the heavy door and stepped out of the house. With a last anxious look behind him he crossed the field and disappeared into the dense woods. When he reached a clearing he sat down, laid the flashlight be- side him, then put his shoes on. Hearing a twig snap he jumped up and listened cau- tiously. Another twig snapped. There was something or somebody coming! He picked up his flashlight, stood very still, and listened. The steps came nearer and nearer. Then Bob cried, Who's there '? No answer. Bob shouted again, Who's there? Still no answer. All the time it was coming closer. Bob wanted to run, but his legs wouldn't move. He Wanted to scream or faint, but he couldn't. All he could do was stand there listening and trembling. He was petrified! Finally Bob got up enough courage to run but a twig caught his foot causing him to he fell he fainted from fright. fall.
