The girls team record for the 1986 season stands at two wins, two ties and, unfortunately, five losses. Captains Kellie Newcombe and Stephanie Denesha will be mov- ing up to varsity next year, along with Louise Gardner and Nickie Bacon. Awards are as follows: Lisa Liv- ingston — 100% award, best defensive player — Stephanie Denesha, most improved players — Lisa Bishop and Kathleen Carvel. Best of luck to next years girls. Their 7-3 won-lost record gave them a tie for second place in the league. The big- gest upset on the season came against Edwards- Knox. After playing them at home and only scor- ing 15 points, the junior Demons went to Knox and came away with the first match victory any visitor has scored there in J.V. Volleyball since 1981, covering 24 straight matches. Tracy Morrison and Kellie Newcombe were co- captains, with Lynn Briggs the high-point server with 90. Tracy Morrison had the best serving per- cent for the second year in a row with 91%. Front (L-R): Managers: C. Ostrander, R. Soulia. Second (L-R): K. Newcombe, L. Donaldson, H. Sen, C. Simmons. The Demons started slow with a close loss to Massena, this loss proved to be the last of the year as the wrestlers then reeled off 12 straight matches. Their record in the Northern Athletic Conference over the last two seasons is 22-2-0. In tournament action the wrestlers placed fourth at Beaver River (14 teams), fifth at Middlebury (18 teams), fifth at Saquoit Valley (11 teams), and brought home the third place trophy at the 25 team Essex Junction Vermont Wrestling Classic. In the Sectional Tournament the wrestlers were able to be the first D school to win the sectional crown. The Demons defeated second place Gouvemeur 185.5 to 145-5. Coaches O'Donnell, Saint-Amour, and Bray were extremely pleased with the improvement and attainments of the 1986-87 Sectional Champion Wrestling Demons. Row 1: J. Matthews, C. Allen, A. Grant, D. This record was good enough to win the Junior Varsity B Division. The team was anchored by fine performances from Jamie Matthews, Shane Halladay, Don Fuller, Paul Gilbert, Tom Bason, Marvin Garvey, Nathan Young, and Dennis Woods. Above all, the wrestlers and the coaches had a lot of fun with the wrestling this season. 60 GIRL’S BASKETBALL This was a rebuilding year for the girl's varsity. The 1986-87 Hermon DeKalb Demons featured a group of young players. Pat Collins, Jeff Bacon, and Marc Hamilton were the lone seniors on the squad. The inexperience and lack of size made things somewhat difficult, however, the teams determination and hustle kept them in a lot of ballgames. Hopefully this season was a big learning experience for the younger players, and with returning players like Fred Morrill, John Pharo, Mark Tieman, Mike Peters, Steve Newcombe and Tim Carvel we look forward to a successful 1987-88 season. Many of the losses were by less than 10 points. Our inability to play consistently for 4 quarters kept us out of the victory column. Even though we did not win many games our spirit never dwindled. The boys worked as hard at the end of the season as they did in the beginning.
