Dedication Mr. Cline Because this Bicentennial year is so special, the yearbook staff of 1976 feels it is only fit- ting that we dedicate the yearbook to a very special person. You have, and always will be an example for the students of H.-D. to look to. You have especially helped every senior class to face the most important moment of their young lives— graduation! The American Revolution began the formation of a young and growing nation. We are like our nation, searching for our goals and we thank you for helping each one of us to try to achieve them. We dedicate the '76 DEMON to you, Mr. Cline. Thank you. I .1 | »■ u 2

The “Demon” Volume 23 1975-1976 We, the students of the Hermon-DeKalb Central School, in order to form a more perfect school, help to establish justice, and try to secure the blessings of lib- erty to ourselves and fellow students . . . . . . reflect upon the past and look hopefully toward the future.

Mr. Doherty, High School Principal Mrs. Provost, Elementary Principal Mrs. Peters and the yearbook staff have worked hard to produce this bicentennial year edition of the Demon. Con- gratulations to everyone responsible for this excellent book. The anniversary our country is presently celebrating is important to all of us. The word freedom has been bandied about with considerable gusto for many years but its im- portance to us, as citizens, is truly monumental. We are, and have been, free citizens in our society. Most limita- tions to our freedom, by way of laws, mles and regulations, are present so that one individual may not use his freedom to jeopardize the freedom of others. However, the rapid and continuous proliferation of laws, rules and regulations emerg- ing from the state and federal bureaucracy could very easily push the freedom we so admire into a quagmire of restric- tions. The more we ask or force government to do for us, the less will be our freedom to act on our own behalf. As more demands and requirements are forced upon school districts, the duly elected school officials have less and less freedom to act on behalf of its citizens. As the farming community becomes saddled with more and more requirements, their freedom to produce food for our use become less and less. As large and small businesses are faced with bureaucratic restrictions and requirements, their ability to function and produce at reasonable prices deteriorates. I do not advocate the elimination of all of societies rules. Many are necessary for the maintenance of a just and fair life. Remember, however, that the loss of liberty and freedom by any segment of our society will affect you. As citizens, you owe it to yourself to be alert and to work to prevent unnecessary government interference in your lives. Mr. Sandwick, Supervising Principal
