CLASS HISTORY Four years ago as we assembled for our first year of hlg h school we founf with us William Popple, Donald Slate, Leo Tiernan, Thelma Forbes, Mary Gotham, Isabelle Shampine, Dorothy Bacon, Vicyor Murray, Inez Paro, Joyce Bacon, Lester Dusharm, Earl Hand, Helen Ferguson, Vena Hubbard, Phyllis Johnson, and Eleanor Rowe. In May, Beverly Hendrickson joined our group and in June, Joan Popple. Our class officers were Isabelle Shampine, Pres- ident; Vena Hubbard, vice President; Helen Ferguson, Sec. and Treas.; and Eleanor Rowe, class Historian. Miss Dorothy Brining, Home Economics teacher, acted as class advisor. During this year our class funds and dues gave us a total of $68.55. We loss one member, Joyce Bacon. Class Officers of our Sophomore year were William Popple, President; Isabelle Shampine, vice President; Vena H ubbard. Sec. and Treas.; and Phyllis Johnson, class Historian. Frank Schneck, commercial teacher, was class advisor. In April, we welcomed Marguerite Glasby to our class. The latter part of the year, Earl Hand and Isa- belle Shampine left our group. Our financial standing at the end of this year was $150.97. Our Junior year officers were Vena Hubbard, Pres- ident; Donald Slate, vice President; Phyllis Johnson, Secretary; Beverly Hendrickson, Treasurer; and Eleanor Rowe, class Historian. Miss Rutlie Bitz, musical instr- uctor, acted as class advisor. During the year we lost Helen Ferguson and Joan Popple and gained a member, Joyce Miller. We received our class rings and had two class activities, which were not very successful as our treasury account of $141.64, showed at the end of the year. Officers elected in our Senior year were Vena Hub- bard, President; Donald Slate, vice President; Phyllis Johnson, Secretary; Beverly Hendrickson, Treasurer; and Eleanor Rowe, class Historian. Curti3 Bristol, commer- cial teacher, accepted as class advisor. We were pleased to find Earl Hand, an old member, back with us. In Nov- ember, the Senior play, “Let Me Out of Here , was presented which gave us a profit of $118.03. Our supper which we put on In February was a minor success. The dance vre sponsored in October and our St. Patricks Day dance increased our Treasury account. Minor activities such as food sales, scrap drives, and candy resales, gave us a much better financial outlook toward our class trip in tfuly. We think of this trip as a wonderful conclusion to four years which were well spent. Sitting s E, Stotrell,D. K. Morgan, President, L. Fairbanks Standing : p Dominy, V . Though, not knowing what the future holds for us, we hope to help make theworld a more peaceful place in which to live. Any measx.re of success reached by us in cur careers will be reflected by the efforts of us and our teachers during these past school years. Before setting out upon the winding road of life we wish to express our gratitude for the efforts of all the faculty members in aiding us to reach our goal tonight. And to the Board of Education, we express our heartfelt thanks for their unceasing consid- eration of our welfare here at Hermon High School. Last of all our parents, who have made sacrifices that we may attend school and take part in its many activities. We hope that we may live up to their expectations through-out our lives. This farewell tonight is not intended as a ;permanent, one as we all expect to meet again although on less frequent occasions. Nevertheless pleasant memories of our associations in school days will remain with us always. SALUTATORIAN Teachers, Parents, 3oard of Education, and Friends, the class of forty-eight wel- comes each and everyone of you here tonight. Our school years have been happy ones and ones we will cherish. For four enjoyable years, we have been yearning, and hoping for this very moment. Now, that it has come, we are a bit disappointed to think we will no longer be going to the school where we have shared pleasures, and sorrows alike. Now, we turn into the future with hope and the feeling of assurance which the teach- ers have given us. They have guided us to the point of adjusting ourselves into a profit- able life and one in which we can be proud. The class of '48 wishes to extend sincere graditude to its many friends for their com- panionship to us during our four years in Hermon High. In years to come, we will be proud to remember the gratefulness given ua by you, our friends. The presence of our dear parents here to- night, increases our enthusiam for success. V.’e wish to thank the Board of Education for its extreme interest in us, the class of ’48, and will do our best to succeed in our chosen fields; those which they have made possible for us to obtain.
