This, our last year at Hermleigh High, has brought us many happy times as well as some sad ones. We would like to share some of these memories with you, and hope you experience some of the symptoms we have enjoyed in catching the Cardinal Fever. Debby Sandefur, school secretary, may occasionally be found keeping class! A pre-schooler, Little Miss Anderson, some- times feels the need for some baby sitting from high school principal, Mr. Riley. Dee Creswell represents the cafeteria staff, who works to keep the staff and students well fed. Coach R. Peel often gives students words of encouragement in both academics and athletics. Coach Peel is shown making a speech at a pep rally. Mrs. Ruth Davis serves as the librarian for both elementary and high schools. She works diligently to keep all books in order and to assist students and teachers in any way possible. 9 Administration Mr. Jerry Church, Hermleigh l.S.D. Superintendent, says he feels it has been a successful school year and feels that the entire student body has made great strides in academic and social achievements. Mr. Church is looking forward to future years at Hermleigh. Mr. Tommy Riley performed his duties as High School principal but he also taught in history, health, and government. Mr. Riley also sponsored 7th and 8th grade classes. Mr. Billy Haynes served as Elementary School principal and supervised the activities of the faculty and students. The junior high boys brought the season to a close with an 0-6-1 record. Students were placed on teams of six with each student working to get as many pledges as possible. A team was to have one member jumping rope at all times for as long as possible with a maximum time limit of three hours. This proved to be a total school effort with students in k-12 participating. Total money raised by the event was 351086.15 Kindergartener, Joey Matthews, worked hard at his effort. Graduation Exercises The baccalaureate service on Sunday evening, May 11, began the graduate exercises for fifteen seniors. The Rev. D. D. Smith delivered the sermon and a gentleman from Snyder, accompanied by Ms. Brenda Row at the piano provided special music. Both the invocation and benediction were given by Mr. Julius Roemisch, The big night, commencement exercises, were Friday evening, May 16. A special solo was sung by Mrs. Marcene Harris, accompanied by Ms. Brenda Row at the piano. Senior Julie Roemisch's solo was a highlight. Principal, Mr. Tommy Riley, presented awards, while school board president, Mr. Doug Foster, and Superintendent Jerry Church presented diplomas. The tassel ceremony was performed by the senior class sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith. Invocation and benediction were given by Mr. Doug Foster. Juniors serving as ushers were: May 11-Barbara Leatherwood, Greg Kimzey, Roxie Shoemaker and Michael Castillo. May 16-Sharon Nachlinger, Melvin Wallace, Greg Kimzey and Lori Fuqua.
