F' ' .. 9, . ff 5 ' ,i 'I 'P ll Q :P 133 HLE 1 BANQUET The F1rst Annual Athlet1c Banquet honorlng the lettermen of Herman H1gh School was held Thursday Apr1l 10 at 6 30 p m at the Amer1can Leglon Hall The affan' was sponsored by the Pep Club of Herman Hmgh The W S C S Clrcle Z of the Method1st Church prepared the menu whlch was served by the members of the Pep Club Follow1ng the meal Mr Kroger act1ng as master of ceremon1es 1ntroduced The Queertette composed of Gene McW1ll1ams D1ck Lowe .hm West and R1chard Thompson who sang 'Just S1ng1n' Along and B1ll Grogans Goat Mr Parsons after tellmg how much he enjoyed workmg w1th the boys and pra1s1ng them for the1r contmuous effort award ed letters to the followmg R1chard Thompson Ralph Petersen B1ll Cla born Dean Effken Warren West George Tyson .hm West Jxm Hancock, Aldon Schaefer and D1ck Lowe Lela Sheets presldent of the Pep Club del1vered a letter Wh1Ch was turned over to Mr Russell Parsons who read lt to the assembled group The letter 1nd1cated the 1ntent1on of the Pep Club to pay for new Jerseys and trunks for the basketball boys of '52 and '53, and placed the order w1th Mr Russell Parsons manager of the Brande1s Sport 1ng Department Mr Parsons ln turn presented the Pep Club w1th a pla que wh1ch 1nd1cated that the Herman Pep Club of 1951 52 has 1naugurated the Annual Athletmc Banquet at Herman Lela Sheets expressed the apprec1at1on of the Pep Club for the honor R1chard Thompson then expressed the thanks of the Cardmals to the1r coach for h1s tra1n1ng and gu1dance and to the Pep Club for honor1ng them w1th a banquet Mr Hansen 1n h1s speech on Prospects 1nd1cated that s1nce so many of the lettermen are return1ng next vear that the 1mmed1ate prospects should be good He sa1d however that the best prospects l1e 1n the bas1c tra1n1ng of the boys who are st1ll 1D he grades The speaker of the evemng was Maur1ce Sk1p Palrang athletxc d1rec tor of Boys Town who gave a down to earth talk about boys and athlet1cs Followmg h1s talk he showed two hlms One gave an exc llent plctu e of what 1S bemg acco'npl1shed at Boys Town and the other was a football g 'le between Boys Town and Catholxc Central Wh1Ch was played 1n the East
