Confusion, regret freshman jitters distinguish first day On opening day of school, the masonery walls came alive with voice vibrations. From wall to wall came the sounds: I ' ll probably get lost . . We ' ll have a winning team this year . . . My first year teaching, will the students accept me? Nine teachers were added to the faculty for the 1971-72 school year and Mr. Joseph Sumpter became the new vice principal. Rumors became reality when the school board announced that there will be a junior high built adjacent to Heritage, to be completed by 1975. (Above) Computer scheduling was tried for the first time at HHS, Mr. John Becker distributes the IBM j cards to the student body in the gymnasium on the first day of school. (Upper Right) School days! With everyone on their way home after the first day of school, the empty halls seemed like hollowed out shells once filled with life. Busy at work Miss Mary Marsh unloads her books and other teaching material, preparing her room for the journalism and English classes she will instruct. (Lower Center) Mike Wyss is busy explaining how he feels about the end of summer vacation and the beginning of an- other school year, on the first day, August 30. (Lower Left) Changes in schedules plagued the guidance department the first week of school. Mrs. Colleen Snyder, guidance counselor, is helping Susie Davis adjust her schedule. (Upper Center) Twins, Harold and Harry Brooks, compare their senior schedules while thinking about what their future holds for their last year at Heritage, (Lower Left) Speaking to the student body and faculty, Mr. Ivan Mulligan, principal, waits for 1,000 jabbering students to quiet, before explaining how the week will be organized.
