Cultures Brought to HHS by Foreign Exchange Foreign Exchange Students included Ulf Ekstedt, Lisa Hulton, Sue Crowe, and Marcella Martinez. But these were not the only people who influenced Heritage culturally. Tide, Glicia, and Julio Franco along with Markos Car- valho came from Brazil so Julio could receive therapy at Craig Center. Ulf, Lisa, Sue, and Marcella came to the school through the Foreign Exchange Program. Ulf and Lisa brought the culture of Sweden with them and Sue introduced some Austra- lian culture, while Marcella added a touch of Colombian understanding. All the students agreed that coming to Her itage was a valuable experience and they all enioyed learning with the stu- dent body at Heritage. 42 Foreign Exchange

Council Provides Service and Spirit Purchase orders, voting tables, fund-raising schemes, con- cession stands, publicity posters . . . all of these and more constituted the less exciting tasks that were part of being a Student Council member. However, all that work and lots of enthusiasm added up to a year of activities and proiects that affected almost every Heritage student. This year Student Council organized the usual assortment of activity weeks, dances, and charity drives, plus an expanded, highly successful Spirit Week. In representing the views and needs of the student body the Council performed more serious assignments. The Communica- tions Board committee worked with architect Eugene Stern- berg, who designed Heritage High, on plans for an enclosed bulletin board to display information concerning all students. In the face ofa possible Homecoming game riot, Council rep- resentatives visited Smoky Hill High School to help calm nega- tive sentiment towards H.H.S. ln each activity and proiect, Stu- dent Council officers, senators, and associate members did their utmost to represent the best interests of their school and community.
