ROSIE PIERCE CROWNED HOMECOMING QUEEN At 2:30 pm on November 13, 1953, Herington High School held its annual homecoming ceremoniesin the auditorium. Rosie Pierce was crowned queen. Her attendants were Janie Danielson, seniorg Beverly Cheever, juniorg Donna Strunk, sophomoreg judy Rule, freshman. Immediately after the crowning ceremonies a parade was formed outside the school moving down through town and ending at the fair- grounds. Convertibles carrying the queen and her attend- ants, class and organization floats, the Hobo Band, and individual cars, made up the parade. Top honors in the float division went to the Sophomores. To start the evening activities the Railroaders romped over Peabody 27-0. At the half time the band formed a train and a football topped with a crown in honor of the queen. At this time the queen was pre- sented wirh an autographed football. The evening was climaxed by a very successful dance held at the community building.

Falls 2 Lost 3 3 4 5 6 11 12 12 QUEEN MARY LYNN KNIGHT RAILROADERS PLACE SECOND IN CVL The 1953-54 Heringtoll High Railroaders started the season slow dropping their first two games to Chapman and Hillsboro. Then they heat llope for their first win. Before the Christmas Holi- days be am they lost another league contest to Peabody in their new gym. Over the Christmas vacation Coach Stratton took his h00pSICl'S 10 his home town of Glasco, Kansas. His team played Glasco on New Year's day and won the game by 15 points to start the new year out right. While they were out West the team stayed overnight at Beloit. They saw Lhe Beloit invitational toumament while they were there. The boys had a lot of fun on this trip and sure seemed to benefit a lot from it. After coming hack from Glasco the team won six league encounters in a row, but lost the seventh game to Marion. After this Herington won the rest of their league contests before running into stiff competitionin the fomm of Wamego. The Railroaders went to Marion to the district tourney and played Marion the first nicht. They lost to Marion hy a score of 57 to 55. Thus the Railroaders ended their season with an II won 7 lost record. The team was composed of six seniors, one junior, and four sophomores. The six boys graduating areg lerry Weathei-man, Larry Meuli, Carl Gravatt, L. E. Garver, Don Gerdes, and Joe McCoy. Ai-mild Riffel' was the lone junior. The sophomores were Milton Wade, Ronnie I-Ioleman, Glen Dale, and Robert Kramer. The Railroaders had a good season under the able guidance of Coach Stratton who was new to our schaiol this year. He deserves a lot of credit for fomiing the boys into a team, which placed second in the CVL, the Railroaders best record since the 1950-51 season.
