The band began its successful year by playing at the Tri-County Fair. The group also perform- ed at the Topeka State Fair on September 17th. They attended the University of Kansas Band Day on October 3rd, and played for President Eisenhower in Abilene on the 16th of October. As a money-making project the band held a Pancake Fry with the Rotary Club on November 13th, they also sponsored the programs for the athletic events. The band served a pot luck supper for the Kingman Orchestra when they stopped in Hering- ton on their concert tour on January 12th. The annual winter concert was presented January Zlst. The band owes much of its success to the Band Booster Organization who accompanied and helped to finance the band trips and who purchased the new drum major uniform. The LettermCr1'S Club had a very successful year under joint sponsorship of the coaches, Vern Vdeakley and Max Stratton. To reimburse their depleted funds the Letter- men sponsored the B Team Football games and a basketball concession stand. With this money the Lettermen bought a large orange and maroon banner which they presented to the Pep Club at an assembly on january 29th. A second project of the year was to set up a constitution. The Lettermen also purchased maroon and white letter iackets of which every- one is very proud. V1ce Sree, Sect amd The concert band held its annual winter con- cert on January 21, 1954, in the high school auditorium. The C.V.L. instrumental Clinic was held in Herington on March 16th. The band also partici- pated in the District Music Festival on April 2nd, in Salina. Every member of the band belonged to an em- semble. Beginners' ensembles were directed by more advanced members of the band. Several of the ensembles performed at concerts and on other occasions. The spring concert was held on May llth. On the 12th and 13th of that month the band partici- pated in the Santa Fe Trail Celebration. Compliments of CL ARK OIL COMP ANY.
