H. S. It is the purpose of this book to capture those memories which will make this year unique to you and to Hereford High School. It is impossible, within these few pages, to completely attain that goal. We cannot give you a finished picture of the complex unit that is Hereford High School ... the impressions, the moods, the people; we can only provide a silhouette, a rough sketch in which you must furnish the details. A. stunt which was entitled THE FALTER- ING Females. bidden Talent Shines KATHY YOUNG Annual Queen Maud Frickert, better known as Mr. Swindle, enter- tained the audience between stunts. Sophomores set the stage for a slap stick pie fight. 23 Koobraey Assembly Patricia Hill, Sophomore Class Favorite, was escorted by Jimmy Childers. Philip Cain, Charolotte Hill, Carol Robbins, Gwen Cargo, Jimmy Alli- son, and Ken Stark proudly received the honor of Most Beautiful and Alost Handsome Candidates. Laura Higgins was 24 Patsy Smith and Chris Meredith contribute a few little puns to Koobraey proceedings. Thespians Polish Talents For Professional Effect The Thespian officers are Gerald Witkowski V.P.; Steve Hoffman — Pres.; Cynthia Knox — Clerk; Kevin McAndrews — Treas.; and Kathy Pool Sec. Sponsor — Mr. Renfro Thespians rehearse for the All School Play, Stardust. 25 VJ.CA, Offers Students enrolled in COSMETOLOGY study the basic techniques of hairstyling, facials, mani- curing, etc. After four semesters of instruction, these students are eligible to take the state board may become licensed beauticians. 1 - :iiK AUTO MECHANICS offers practical experience in every phase of automobile maintenance and repair. Under the super- vision of Mr. Bill McDowell, students learn the basic skills neede for an expert mechanic by actual application of these skills: from making a simple oil change to a complete motor overhaul. 26 Training In Practical Skills VIC A Club Sweetheart— Geneva Maldonada Under tiie supervision ui ivir. Gerald Weekly, BUILDING ' TRADES students learn the basic skills of carpentry, wiring, plumbing, etc. by the construction of a build- ing, from the ground up. In the sec- ond period Tucker connected with Watts with Williams converting. Following a Floydada tally, the Herd drove to the 1 yard-line on Tucker ' s intercepted pass. Malouf climaxed the drive with the final White- face score. Miller, Watts, and Brewton turned in a fine defensive game. ERNIE WILLIAMS Jr. Captaia Hon. Men. Tackle 76 Whiteface Captains prepare for Olton Showdown. Herd Trounces Olton Mustangs HEREFORD 47--OLTON 8 The big herd held the Mustangs on their first drive and drove and drove for a T.D. with Petey Cain scoring and kicking the extra point. Ernie WilHams scored shortly thereafter and Gary Tucker ran the conversion. Cain again scored and kicked the extra point shortly before the half. In the second half Billy Frank tallied and Cain added the extra point. Then Gary Tucker went over from the four. Later Stix Childers passed to Mike Davis for a 13 yard T.D. In the fourth quarter Billy Frank scored for the final tally in the game. The defensive stars for the night were Johnny Cornelius, Wayne Miller, and Charles Brewton. PHILLIP CAIN, Sr. Quarterback HEREFORD 8— PHILLIPS 20 After trading punts, the big herd started a drive but it was stalled when a Cain pass was intercepted and returned for a Phil- lip ' s T.D. When the half ended the score was 7-0 in favor of Phillips, but the Whitefaces led in the statistics. In the second half the Herd got all of the bad breaks. The Whitefaces lost a fumble that led to a Phillips T.D. When the Herd failed by inches to gain a first down, Phillips again scored on a long pass. In the fourth quarter, the Whitefaces finally mounted a drive and Billy Frank scored the T.D. and Tucker ran for the two points. Gary Tucker scored early in the second quarter and Petey Cain kicked the extra point, Then shortly, Ernie Williams scampered 32 yards for a T.D. As the second half started. Tucker took a Levelland pass 17 yards for a T.D. Billy Frank scored as the Herd capitalized on a Lobo fumble and Petey Cain added the extra point. Later, Charlie Brewton intercepted a Lobo pass and re- turned it all the way. Bill Watts, Charlie Brewton, Lenny Petree and Donnie Fangman led the Whiteface defense. Fighting Spirit Bounces Lobos WAYNE MILLER, Sr. Guard, Hon. Men. All District guard 78 G. W. Tucker defends Del Norte pass. HEREFORD 10— DEL NORTE 8 As the Herd faced the only 4-A team they played this season, they held the Knights scoreless through the first half, while Petey Cain kicked the 3 pts. for the Herd. The second half saw a little more ac- tion as Billy Frank and Gary Tucker alternated tries for the Herd ' s drive with Frank carrying the final yard for the T.D. Cain kicked the extra pt. for a 10-0 lead. Herd ' s defensive unit took over and once again held the Knights till the clock showed only 18 seconds left in the game. Del Notre tallied from the 9 yd. line in 2 tries. Leading in defense for this game was Fangman, Brewton, Malouf and Jim Stix Childers. Billy Frank drove over from the 1 yd. line. In the second quarter, Mike Davis fell on a fumbled punt to put Hereford ahead, 12-0. Then when the Whitefaces regained the ball. Elusive Ernie Williams scampered 75 yards to make the score 18-7. Canyon scored shortly after the half to make the score 18-14. Then after a fumble recovery, Williams scored from the Canyon 20. Petey Cain ran the conversion for two points for the final tally in the game ending 26-14. Charlie Brew- ton and Gary Wayne Tucker led the defense against Canyon. L,. KARL FRENCH Jr. Fullback, Hon. Gary Tucker and Ernie Williams hold up a Ranger receiver. Herd Sweeps Homecoming HEREFORD 10— PERRYTON The homecoming activities were climaxed by the g.ime between Hereford and Perr) ' ton. After a scoreless first quarter and only 11 seconds left in the second quarter, Phillip Cain booted a 43 yard field goal for the only score in the first half. Early in the fourth quarter Tony Malouf moved to pay-dirt from the one yard line, and Petey Cain added the extra point for the final score. Early in the first quarter Billy Frank moved over the goal line from the one. Later in the game, Ernie Williams broke for 52 yards for the second Whiteface T.D. In the third quarter Billy Frank moved over from the 6. In the fourth quarter, Pete Cain passed to Watts for a five yard T.D. Cain kicked the extra point. After a short Muleshoe punt, Cain passed from the 27 to Billy Frank for the final tally. Cain added the extra point. The Whitefaces led 18 to 8 in first downs, 370 to 147 total yards. Tony Malouf, Brewton, Ernie, and Corneilus led the defense with 8 tackles each. Billy Frank made a difficult catch for a Whiteface touch- down . HEREFORD 14— TULIA The Whitefaces boosted their district mark to 4-0 when they defeated the Tulia Hornets. With 3:57 left in the first period, Ernie scored from the 2 yard line. Petey Cain kicked the extra point. Then early in the second period Tuck tallied from the 1 yard line. Petey again booted the extra point. The second half was a scoreless defensive battle. The White- faces threatened once again but were stalled on the 1. The herd led 19-6 in first downs 257 to 115 total yards gained. Then the Demons scored their first T.D. But the Whitefaces came right back with Phillip Cain ' s 26 yard field goal. Dumas scored twice in the second half and the Herd could not move the ball, although they moved inside the Demon 5 yard line three times. The Demons had 14 first downs to 12 for Hereford. Ricky Fangman, Tony Malouf, Ernie Williams, and Mole Cornelius led the Whiteface defense. Faces Chalk Up Impressive Record SEASON LEADERS The Hereford Whitefaces compiled a fine 8-2 won-loss rec- ord, the best in many years. Hereford outscored their opponents 199-87. They led in first downs 157-89. The Whitefaces led in total yards gained 2,377-1,374. The leading scorers were: Billy Frank with 56, Ernie Williams — 38, Phillip Cain — 35, Gary Tucker — 28, Tony Malouf, Mike Davis, and Bill Watts with 12 each, and Charlie Brewton with 6. Billy Frank was the lead- ing rusher with 728 yards followed closely by Gary Tucker with 689, and Ernie Williams with 511.
