Phy ical ...ff Education nfl- . 1 -. 1.- fav In Mrs. Fricke's physical education classes, the girls participate in baseball, volleyball, soft- ball, badminton, table tennis, shuffle board, square dancing, and archery. Herclasses do much to develop good sportsmanship and leadership a- mong all girl students, also, they give studentsan introduction to activities which they may carry on or participate in after they leave highschool. Her classesof physicaleducation, health, and biology are enioyed by 274 students. Mr. Osburn has taught physical education at Her- culaneum for the past two years. His main interest is coaching and organizing a better football team. He also teaches apractical course in driving. Hisclasses, physical education and driving, are enioyed by l6O students. Bu incss Education Herculaneum has done much toimprove the Busi- ness Education Department. A much larger number of students have enrolled in the business education work than ever before . This department now offers two years of Simplified Gregg Shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, and secre- tarial training. Including economic geography and general business taught b Miss Robinson, there are more than 175 students taking business subiects . Mrs . Massey is very happy to know that many of her stu- dents are using their business education to get posi- tions in the business world. 17

--Q 0 '--NMQW Under the instruction of Mrs. Knight, the Home Economics Department offers three years of home economics. There are lO5 girls inthe five periods Mrs. Knight teaches. The course is a broad field including many activ- ities carried on in daily home living. ln addition to instruction in foods and clothing, other subjects such as developing personality, improving personalappear- ance, sharing in the managementof the home, sharing in family and community life, the home and its tur- nishings, buying problems, health and home care of the sick, assisting with the care, and guidance of children, and the choosing ot a vocation are also studies. The industrial Arts Department, under the direction of Mr. Thomas, consists of four different phases: shop I, shop ll, building trades, and me- chanical drawing. Shop l is a general shop class consisting of three areas: general metal, hand woodwork, and general leather. Shop ll is an ad- vanced class in woodwork. The building and trades class meets all morning and gives the student work experiences in the Following fields: carpentry, electricity, heating, plumbing, and masonry.
