There are many more including the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Fall comes in the beginning of the school year just as the seventh graders do. The eighth graders are half-Way through just like Winter is, and in the spring We come to a close. A settlement was reached and classes started as planned. HSJH set its goal for the maga- zine sale at 820,000 and only missed it by 31000. Beginning Band won a pizza feed and most students won either small or large prizes. Spartan Family Night was run this year by the PTA and humani- ties. The PTA managed the food in the cafeteria while humanities pro- vided the entertainment with booths in the gym. Those participating dressed in cos- tumes from the different periods in American history. Among the old things in the booths were quilts, hand-dipped candles and homemade soaps. They Won the all-you-can-eat pizza party for selling the most magazine subscriptions during the Magazine Sale. In the spring, Mr. Tom Blackstone, sponsor, and players traveled to other junior high schools to compete with players with their own ability. Along with learning how to sail, the Sailing Club had many boat races at Howarth Park. They also Went to boat shows. Mr. Carlo Bottini and Mr. Ed Silverman taught the members the rules of sailing and helped them to become better boat handlers. Tests played an important part in the fall of 1976. Eighth graders spent one entire day taking the CTBS which shows at what grade level the student is achieving. Categories ranged from all-around best costume to the weirdest one.Winners were Kathleen Gaddy as a purple belly-dancer, Bob Davis as the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Karl Schreiber as a girl. Many excited students also dressed up for Twin Day on which two people dressed alike. Some teachers thought they were seeing double. Mr. Dan Kelley trained the team for the full season. Shelley Gaddie, pitcher on the softball team, said, Mr. Kelley is the best coach weive ever had and our team work was great. The 'Spartans finished their season with a 4 - 3 record. If they had won their last game against Rincon, they would have tied for first place, but they had to settle for third. Foods students prepared fancy goodies such as tri-colored pin- Wheels, spirits, fattigam and rocky- road chocolate bars. Decorations were also made by students. Weeks of planning went into the Christmas Concert. The Concert Band, consisting of 75 players, played along with the seventh grade band in Echo Carol. Both bands were directed by Mr. Dan Kelley. Adam Moes as the Stage Manager acted as the guide for an inside glimpse of the goings on in a small town over a period of years. Major characters included Cari Hale as Emily and Steve Bruner as George. Yearbooks were one of the biggest 'ghappeningsn at the end of the year. After they were handed out, people sat around the halls, classes and lawns in the strangest positions while signing them. The Career Fair was in March and speakers came to talk about all sorts of careers open to students. The speakers answered questions like what kind of preparation was necessary, age limits, earnings, and advancements. Some of the characters portrayed included Donald Duck This year at HSJH, a new activity was held-Contest Week. During the week, different activities were held every day.
