HERBERT SCHENK JUNIOR HIGH June 2, 1966 NEWS FLASH BULLETIN From morning newspaper: WSCHENK KEEPS CITY JUNIOR TRACK TITLEU Schenk is Madison Junior High Schools' track and field champion for 1966. Our team scored hh points to beat out Van Hise for the title. Van Hise tallied 352 points, West 262, LaFo11ette 20, East 19, Lincoln 17, Orchard Ridge 17, Cherokee 16, Sherman 7, Marquette h, Central 2. Here is a recap of how your track team won the city championship. Don Trevaskis started off by becoming our first city cham ion as he won the 60 yd high hurdles. In doing so he set a new school record. Howard Hollenbeck took hth place in the same event giving us a total of 8 points. Howard Hollenbeck added 3 more points when he won a 3rd in the low hurdles. Another 3rd by Steve Hirsch in the 220 yd. dash gave us 3 more points. Then Rod Baker and Ron Skolaski both scored in the 60 yd. dash by winning hth and Sth for a total of 3 points. Paul MacDonald produced a pleasant surprise as he came through with a second place and h points in the half mile run. Three more points were added by Rod Baker for his 3rd place in the lOO yd. dash. We gained 2 points as Gary Mathis took hth in the high jump and 1 point for a Sth in the discus by Don Trevaskis. Our other city cham ion was Dan Walker in the pole vault. Dan with the help of Dave Palmiter gave us a one-two punch in the pole vault for lst and 2nd place. Their lO points put us out in front to stay after being behind by 5 point. Our final scoring came in the relay events when the 880 relay team won 2nd place setting a new school record and the hhO relay team won a 3rd and also set a new school record. The members of the 880 team are: Steve Moulton, Ken Morgan, Don Trevaskis, and Steve Hirsch. The bhO team is composed of Mike Runkel, John Maglio, Ron Skolaski, and Tim Mielcarek. For the entire track season our team accomplished the following: 1. Won the city championship 2. Went undefeated for the season 3. Had 2 individual city champions h . Broke S Schenk School records 5. Tied 1 Schenk School record Truly a great season by a tremendous group of young men. Again, congratulations to the team and the coach!
