HOOVER HYMN Where the Indian and the Spaniard In the days of long ago Neath the heights of Mt. Verdugo Roamed the valley wide and low Now stands our Alma Mater In her majesty aglow Hail, Alma Mater, hail, Hoover, hail. May her name be ever honored And her loyalty stand true. May she rise above the hill-tops In her glory ever new. All hail, all hail to Hoover, May the land her banner view. Hail, Alma Mater, hail, Hoover, hail.

In recognition of his years of v ork and leadership at Herbert Hoover High School, the 1946 SCROLL is dedicated to Normal C. Hayhurst. During the summer of 1945, Hoover lost Principal Hayhurst. when he was appointed Deputy Super- intendent of Schools, succeeding the late A. L. Fer- guson. Although Normal Hayhurst is no longer working directly at Hoover, his friendliness and ca- pability will long be remembered at the North Glen- dale school. Mr. Hayhurst came to Hoover with its opening in 1929 to serve as Boys' Vice Principal. When Principal Ferguson was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Schools in September of 1937, Mr. Hayhurst filled his vacated position. Normal Hayhurst attended the University of Ari- zona and served as head of the Physical Education Department at Glendale High before coming to Hoover. He has served Glendale in many capacities, one of which was president of the Chamber of Com- merce. During his sixteen years at Hoover, Normal Hay- hurst proved to be a friend to all students. His sup- port of football and other sports helped to bring this school to the top in athletics, while his leadership in the scholastic field made Hoover one of the high- est ranking high schools in Southern California. With gratitude and love, Hoover students and alumni present this 1946 SCROLL to Normal C. Hay- hurst. •
