lllll ll guioled fAe Cgnexlaerience Despite the fact-that my main contact with the 1964 class has been as the boys' disciplinarian, I feel that this is one of the best classes ever to graduate from Hooverf, Long association with Hoover makes no one more qualified to say this than Mr. Cassie, Boys' Vice Principal. Before becoming one of Hoover's admin- istrators five years ago, Mr. Cassie coached baseball and taught drafting and math. This Hoover alumnus' spare time is spent with his family, scouting for the Yankees and golfing. While Mr. Cassie went to Hoover, he met the girl who became his Wife. v-A at ll Mr. Leslie R. Cassie Proud is Mrs. Ruffa. Her daughter, Tina, is a freshman at Stanford this year and Mrs. Ruffa had the tremendous honor of being chosen as the 1964 Woman of Valour in education by the Temple Beth Sisterhood. Mrs. Ruffa graduated from Weir High School in Weirton, West Virginia, the College of Woos- ter in Wooster, Ohio fB.A.j, and Northwest- ern University in Evanston, Illinois Mrs, Ruffa enjoys music, reading, deep-sea fishing, and working with young people. Mr. Matthie, for four years one of Hoover's most able administrators, started his career by attending San Bernardino junior College in 1956. Coming to San Diego in 1938, he gradu- ated from S.D.S.C. in 1941. After Bb years of service in the Air Force, he began his teach- ing career in Victorville, California in 1946. Two years later in 1948, Mr. Matthie accepted a position at Hoover and has since been Direc- tor of Athletics, coach of both football and baseball, math teacher, and for 12 years, at- tendance coordinator. After a year as assistant supervisor of physical education for the San Diego City Schools, he was appointed vice principal at Hoover in 1961. Mr. Matthie received his M.A. degree at California Western University. Mr. William G. Matthie

we .gpairif 0 ofhaclemfzilo 16 Mr. Percy T. Allen Mr. Allen works well with teachers and students alike. Hoover's principal is dedicated, hardwork- ing, and congenial Mr. Percy T. Allen. He has been principal of our school for nine years. A large school demands an unending amount of work, especially from the principal. Yet it is this bigness of Hoover that Mr. Allen enjoys. He was pleased with all the events, such as our opera at Christmas, that could never have been attempted by a smaller school. Mr. Allen majored in Biological Science at S.D.S.C., where he obtained his A.B. degree. Continuing at the University of Southern California, Mr. Allen received his M.S. in Edu- cation. He has done graduate work at Teach- er's College in New York's Columbia Univer- sity. Our principal served in the amphibious forces as Lt. Commander in the US. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Allcn's first teaching assignment was as a Science and P.E. instructor at Roosevelt Jr. High. Then he taught Math and P.E. at La Jolla High. Seventeen years of administra- tion followed as Mr. Allen served as vice- principal of La Jolla and San Diego high schools, and then as principal of La .Jolla High. Mr. Allen's leisure hours are spent fly-fish- ing for trout, camping with his family, gar- dening, and attending many of the high school sports events in San Diego. Mr. Allen Serves Hoover to the best of his ability, and that's saying quite a lot!

Especially good were our instructors. Mrs. Buker wrote an ex- cellent curriculum guide for Music Apprecia- tion that was used in the San Diego City Schools this year. Mr. Stollsteimer, our new band and orchestra leader, played lst trumpet with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Close also used piano for the first time to teach harmony.
