The first satellite has been launched. lt seems inevitable that the race is on for the invasion of the moon. What the future holds for mankind is anyone's guess. As graduating seniors, this is your challenge. Are you ready to take your place in this critical age? Have the three years you spent at Hoover given you a balance between the humanities, the aesthetics and the scientific? Are you prepared to assist in building a better World which is in need of high moral and spiritual values? My hope for each one of you is that you may meet the challenge with success and that each one of you will be able to contribute your share in making this World a better place in which to live. VICE Plll UIPAL eniors: The years of your high school career nuld be characterized as the era of pre- icted doom. You have been told that uclear weapons, an ever-increasing daily ace, the threat of war, and prospects of lter-space travel portends for you a dismal nd frightening future. Lest you become discouraged by such redictions you should be reminded that Nars and rumors of wars and doomed enerations of youth are not unique to your me. From the Age of Pericles to the pres- nt time, each generation has had its proph- :s of doom. Yet, and this may be debated y the cynic, the current generation is al- .ost always superior to the immediate pred- zessor. We are certain that this will be true your case. The years that lie ahead for you seem, i us at least, to offer a most wonderful, in- eresting and fascinating challenge. Frankly, be envy you. Good luck! R. E. Ford Your senior year has been thrillingly unique. For the first time in history man- made moons shot skyward, there to circle silently in outer space. Since Sputnik took to the heights, the most fantastic schemes now seem plausible. You have seen fantasy become reality. You have had your small, secure world suddenly expand. You have thrilled with the thought that your horizons now extend even beyond this planet. l-low exciting to be a senior in this new age of limitless, boundless space. May this dramatic launching of man's first satellite, experienced by no other senior class, reveal to you the endless possibilities of your future. May you forever remember that the impossible now can be realized. May you confidently believe that although the universe is puzzlingly intricate, the an- swers are there.
