Win .Mean mmm During your years in high school you graduating seniors have been building at- titudes and convictions. Commencement days seem to bring a new awareness that it is time now, more than ever, to act upon 'those convictions. You realize suddenly, as graduates, that no longer can you depend upon someone else to straighten out the world. Instead of a vague, abstract they it will have to be you to talce on the taslc of building a better world. May I challenge you to find the vision, the courage, and the strength to live ac- cording to the finest convictions that you have built throughout your high school years. ada JL., IQ .S'Z.fm The forty-niners' who came to California one hundred years ago would be surprised indeed to see the wonders that have been wrought here, surprised to see Hoover High School with its graduating class of over five hundred students. MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 19491 To become educated seems' to be the goal most desired by man and has been since the beginning ot civilization. We are told by some that education is the development ot a character that will make the ideal response to every outside influence or contact. A recent speaker tor a service organization said that the essence ot education lies in finding out what makes people and things' tick, and this requires open, in uisitive minds, minds unafraid to tackle new problems and to explore unknown and uncharted ways of man. ' You will tind as you grow older that lite becomes more and more complex and that education is as gradual as physical growth: but through knowledge we make tewer mistakes and theretore find greater happiness, ln seeking happiness through knowledge or education we need to discover the reality ot a divine center or a still small voice at the very core ot our being and from this center learn to direct every activiiy of lite. The searching, inquisitive mind will be guided and a char- acter will be develope that will make the ideal response to every outside influence. The final result ot your education will be the ability to meet lite in all its complex phases and therefore to live abundantly. l wish you all success. Sincerely, Qyfx Q5
