M, 4 .af 'af MR. FLOYD A. JOHNSON MRS. VIRGINIA KYES MR. LEE SLATORE Principal Vice-Principal Vice-Principal U UU-. . ADMINISTRATION OORDINATING and CONSTRUCTIVE efforts of both faculty and students have been necessary to make l-loover Senior High School what it is today. It is easy for each student of this high school to see how necessary it is for him to have an active part in establishing new standards and upholding the traditions of the school. lt is not easy, however, for you to feel that you are an important part of a whole nation of people. lt is, nevertheless, true that your city, your state and your country must depend upon the character and efforts of its people for progress and' development. As you go out from this school as graduates, you will realize that the hand of time is leveling out and spreading work and responsibility as well as leisure and luxury. You have been taught much in recent years of how to concentrate your efforts to succeed in life in some vocation and to use your leisure time to improve your bodies and perfect yourselves, but not enough has been said or taught of the value and necessity of sacrificial service to others. ln life you will find organizations of men and women playing an ever-increasing popular and important part, and you will have to choose the groups in which you wish to work. There are those groups which are entirely festival and those which are directed toward some substantial accomplishment. May you choose wisely and invest your education and personality in those which have an unselfish, constructive purpose and which require sacrificial service: for no matter how much you may wish to improve yourselves, it is through sacrifice and service that character is built. While you are seeking happiness for yourself, remember that nothing is so necessary to happiness as strength of character, for it is only the strong man or woman who can meet adversity and success alike with serenity, hopefulness and faith in the future. I would leave this word with you. Start thinking and planning now for a life of worthwhile service. lt is my hope to see you in future as an important spoke in the revolving wheel of some organization whose load is a program of progress and con- structive value to the nation. Floyd A. Johnson
