T he idea of the original thirteen colonies and their leaders was born out of a passion to be fre-ee-to chart their own destiny of building a country out of this thin fabric called Freedom. The break from England was not to come easily, as this fledgling was viewed as a ser- jous threat to the tentacles of the vast and far-flu-ng British Empire. , 3; ' 3 2i is i' '-WA-n m s . -gxzw ngynu: V P atriots rose from every corner of the struggling country. Help came from other European countries to add to the flame of breaking the grip of England. Farmers, fish- ermen, cobblers and men from every walk of life took up their arms to defend this new- felt right to be free. As the smoke began to clear, ideas on organizing this diversity of colonies into a coalition of united states began to take shape. The form of a Constitu- tion and Bill of Rights was molded by states- men who previously were nonexistent. 6 .1- w n:.A...-..; .:.. ; KhA SOODBYEEODSPAREYOU ul chi x5 it; y he need for new frontiers continued as movement spread West. After its success with other Allied Nations, a never- before-felt boom and prosperity was followed with the shattering bust of the Great De- pression. New leaders were sought to pull the Counthiigf out of its fall, while on the horizon new storm clouds were building across the oceans. 1.1;: x 1, ,n.tr ,.8. ,4. : i... L. . , ,L ,u a 'E 's F i f .. Yvonne O'Brien Anyone who thinks of high standards that cannot be bent for any reason; anyone who thinks of the highest quality work and achievement; anyone who thinks of a dedicated teacher who cares too much about the students to let them produce less than their best-that person must automatically think of Mrs. Yvonne OtBrien. Mrs. OtBrien has already given many outstanding years of service to Henryville, producing many students in her business classes who have found fine jobs thanks to her thorough training, who found that they did not have to apologize for years misspent-if those years were spent in her classes. We salute Mrs. OtBrien for holding steadfastly to her high standards and ideals. We thank her for her past efforts, and we hope that she will choose to give many more years of her skill to Henryville. Finally, we gratefully dedicate the 1976 volume of RE- FLECTIONS to her. A lot of young talent began to develop to give hope for big things in the future. The season's record of 10-13 might have been quite different as the Cardettes were involved in several close battles that could have gone either way. All in all, it was an interesting season with lots of action that provided plenty of exciting moments and hopes for a bright future. VARSITY 76 Treynor Card inals-Season Summary The loss of four key personnel led to a rebuilding year for the Treynor Cardinals. No longer did the Cards have the height and quickness that meant so many Victories in the past year. Losing Randy Walter, Matt Spring, Tracy Rath and Neil Andersen, through graduation meant the replacing of these individuals with young inexperienced personnel. Randy Andersen t6'2'3 was the lone starter returning as the Cards found themselves playing against taller and more experienced clubs. h Scott Maguire Gr. L Steve Kiefer tJrJ, Dave Maguire tSrJ, and Blair Hoegh tSOPhJ rounded out the starting five for the '75-76 Cards. Other squad members included: Terry Haack GrJ, Greg Goos tSophJ, Jeff Hood Urj, Jeff Schroeder Org, Bruce Tiarks th, and Dan Jensen tSrJ. Throughout the year, the Cards worked hard at learning to play defense and offense, but in- experience was a key factor in many of the Cards narrow defeats. The Cards ended the year with a 7-4 conference record as all four losses were to teams ahead of them in conference standings. At tournament time, the Cards ran'into Tri-Center for the second straight year and after fall- ing behind by 24 points they could not muster enough points to pull the game out and lost 57-63. Thus, the Cardinals 10-8 season was over. K Back Row: Ken Hansen, Kevin Von Weihe, Mike Murphy, Jeff Morse, Myron McKenzie.
