Text from Pages 1 - 94 of the 1974 volume:

Mr. William Gilbert Those having torches will pass them on to others. 1--P1ato, THE REPUBLIC. Mr. Gilbert has been one of the many friendly, interested, and industrious people around our school for several years now. Like so many of our other teachers, he has been taken for granted just as if it were not necessary to say thank you in a formal way. ' We wish to take this opportunity to say that thank you to Mr. Gilbert. We thank him for his hard work on senior plays and science fairs. We thank him for his patient devotion to all his classes and to his own eighth grade class in particular. But most of all, we thank him for caring enough to stay and work among us. Reflections of Our Staff Telling lies to the young is wrong. Proving to them that lies are true is wrong. . . . The young know what you mean. The young are people. . . . Forgive no error you recognize, it will repeat itself, increase, and afterwards oux pupils will not forgive in us what we forgave. Lies, SELECTED POEMS, Yevtushenko ....2'.iy$: Our principal, Don Kennedy, seldom has a desk free of pa- pers, problems, and generally pesky situations. But he man- ages to keep our school running smoothly. Efficient student aides keep our office filled with a happy hum all day: Sharon Vest, Rita Waggoner, Rachel Caudill, Kendra Greene, Connie Guernsey, Cindi Heath, Joni Parrish, and Mary Beth Sprinkle. Our cafeteria staff and bus drivers perform daily services that we must have. We seldom take time to say thank you, but we really do ap- preciate their devotion to our needs. The emphasis has been on the transition from the narrow confines of a regulated and orderly life as a high school student to the freedom of adults you will experience at this important time in your life. You will assume new roles, some as continuing students, some in the a business world, some in military service, and yes, some even planning homes of 3. your own. , With freedom comes responsibilities - responsibilities to society, your t family, and your friends, brought on by owning and operating automobiles, ac- l quiring property, and taking your place in the community. l Although many of you who do not plan to go to college have completed your l record, all of you are starting a new type of record as an insurance consumer. . Probably the first and most pressing need you will have for insurance will be 1 automobile insurance. The record you are making today as a youthful driver will ;' , have a lasting impact. A good driver is a careful driver. A careful driver has fewer - i accidents, which means fewer claims are paid. The philosophy of insuring automobile drivers today recognizes and rewards, with reduced premiums, the good driver. ; You, as an insurance consumer,.require intelligent advice and counsel. 5 Selection of your insurance agent should be made carefully. Quality and high i standards in good insurance advice and counsel can be obtained from an in- ; dependent agent who identifies himself by the Big I. i Now is not too soon to become acquainted with the independent agent, a ' man who becomes increasingly important to you as the years go by.
