CDR. 1 . F FOX C OMMANDIN G OFFICER AUG 1972 - Commander John F. Fox, son of Mrs. John Fox and the late Mr. Fox of Yonkers, New York received his commission and B.S. degree in 1956 from the New York State Maritime College. He received a M.S. degree in Management from the George Washington University. Commander Fox served aboard the USS PARLE KDE 7081 in successive positions as First Lieutenant, ASW Officer, and Gunnery Officer from September 1956 until December 1957. Following attendance at the Submarine School in New London, he reported aboard the USS AMBERJA CK KSS 5221 and saw duty as Communica- tions Officer, Operations Officer, and Engineering Officer. Commander Fox was Director of Polaris Weapons System Training at the Submarine School from February 1962 until January 1964. His next tour of duty was aboard the USS JOHN MARSHALL KSSBN 6111 where he served as Weapons Officer during five deterrent patrols. In July 1966 while serving as Prospective Executive Officer of USS ATULE l SS 4031, he requested reassignment to the surface fleet and subsequently served aboard the USS LUCE K DLG 71 as Weapons Officer until March 1968. He commissioned the USS MITSCHER KDDG 351 as Executive Officer and served in that capacity until September 1969. Commander Fox then served in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations until August 1971 as Director of Surface Ordnance, in which capacity he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Most recently, he was selected for the Navy Professional Development Pro- gram and received an appointment as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, In this capacity, he participat- ed analyses of social, political, and economic change factors and their impact on national and international affairs. CDR. . C ELSO C OMMANDIN G OFFICER APRIL 1971 - AUG 1972 Commander Paul C. Nelson was born in Boise, Idaho in November 193 7. He attended the Univer- sity of Colorado under the NROTC Regular Prof gram and received his degree and commission in June of 1959. After two years on board the USS EPPERSON IDD 7191 serving in the billets of Navigator, CIC, and Communication Officers, he was assigned as Operations Officer on the Staff of Destroyer Division 253, homeported in Pearl Harbor. A subsequent sea tour as Weapons Officer in USS CORRY fDD 8171 operating from Norfolk- was followed by two years at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington as an assignment officer in the Junior Surface Officer Distribution Section. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and received a Master o f Science Degree in Management in December 1968. CommanderNelson returned to sea in January 1969 with the nucleus crew of the USS KNOX f DE 10521 where he assumed the duties of Execu- tive Officer at the ship's commissioning in April 1969. He commanded the USS HENRY W. TUCKER IDD 8751 from April 1971 until re- lieved by Commander John F. Fox in August 1972. - Commander Nelson is currently continuing his studies at the US Naval War College in Newport.
