COMMANDING OFFICER Commander Paul C. Nelson was born in Boise, Idaho in Novem- ber, 1937. He attended the Uni- versity of Colorado under the NROTC Regular Program and received his degree and com- mission in June of 1959. After two years on board USS EPPERSON QDD-7195, serving in the billets of Navigator, CIC, and Communications Officers, he was assigned as Operations Officer on the Staff of Destroyer Division 253, home ported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A sub- sequent tour as Weapons Officer in USS CORRY QDD-8175, oper- ating from Norfolk, Virginia was followed by two years at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. as an assignment officer inthe Junior S u r f a c e Officer Distribution Section. Commander Nelson received a Master of Science Degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California in December 1968, prior to commencing his cur- rent sea tour with the nucleus crew of USS KNOX QDE-10525, where he assumed duties as Executive Officer at the ship's commissioning in April 1969. Captain Nelson relieved CDR W. L. Story as Commanding Officer of TUCKER in April CDR 1971.
