Foreword Summer is a resfful season for Henry Grady High School. The silence and empfiness are broken only by fhe appearance of a solifary cusfodian walking along wifh his clanking buckef. Then, on one brighf Sepfember day, fhe school becomes alive wifh fhose sighfs and sounds fhaf are an infegral parf of Grady life. Hordes of sfudenfs suddenly descend upon fhe school and fear fhrough fhe long corridors, slamming lockers shu+, screaming greefings fo fheir friends, and, in general, creafing fhe orderly confusion known as Grady life. Passing fime subfly brings changes fo fhis life. Sfudenfs sfruggle under an ever-increasing load of school work, and, finally, in a flurry of papers, pencils, and books fhey prepare for final exams. Cheerleaders no longer appear in fheir swirling red and gray skirfsg pep rallies fade from sighf buf nof from memory. Milifary boys, awkwardly af firsf and fhen wifh greaf ease, sporf fheir olive uniforms wifh pride, and new officers unwiffingly sfab people before fhey grow accusfomed fo fheir new swords. Foofball players become fallen idols as, firsf, baskefball and, fhen, baseball players reign in fheir sfead. The sighfs and sounds of Grady are many-colored fhreads, fhis year fhe ORATOR has woven fhem fogefher fo form a picfure of Grady life.
