so important administration The administration of the Atlanta Public School System has been a very successful one under the leadership of Dr. lra Jarrell. She has instigated many plans to improve the public schools and has made Atlanta one of the leading educational centers in the Southeast. Under her guidance the community high school system was established in I947. Each of the sixteen high schools has been evaluated and is fully accredited by the Southeastern Associa- tion for Secondary Schools and Colleges. Every student at Grady today is benefiting from this system. Working ably under Dr. Jarrell's direction are Dr. G. Y. Smith, Mr. Roy W. Davis, Mr. T. W. Cliff, and Mr. M. E. Cole- man. We have their fine staffs to thank for the advantage of education as oFFered in Atlanta. p.t.a. The Parent-Teacher Association enables the parents to be an integral part of school life, and acquaints them with the various problems which often confront a child during this important phase of his life. The Henry Grad P.T.A., consisting o nearly two thousand parents and one hundted per cent of the teachers, is the largest organization of this type in Georgia. Monetary support for various activities, new pine trees in front of the school, and a proposed picket fence around the Senior Patio are results of the combined efforts of every member of the P.T.A. Whether they are all assembled at a meeting, at the annual s aghetti supper, or in the various classrooms visiting teachers, they are taking the opportunity to help mold fruitful, mature individuals for tomorrow's society. Officers are Mr. Fred Nash, president: Mrs. John A. Mann, Ist vice-president: Mr. Seaborn Jordan, 2nd vice- resident: Mr. Jack lsenberg, 3rd vice- resi- dent: Mrs. E. L. lvlbrse, recording secretary: Mrs. J. F. Ezeli Jr.. corresponding secretary: and Mr. Leroy DuBard, treasur alumni association The Alumni Association is an organization in which Grady takes great pride. Many of its members have continued in col- leges throughout the United States to uphold the standards of unexcelled scholastic excellence, which made them such worthy students during their high school years. In the latter part of December a reunion, which close to one hundred former Grey Knights attended, was held. In addition to various meetings and activities, a basketball game between the varsity boys and the alumni was played. The alumni team, consisting of Harry Mc- Devitt, Richard Austin, Johnny Griffin, Jerome Green, Jack Rudolph, Lester Breen, and Freddy Benamy, was victorious. Financed by membership dues, a trophy is awarded each year by this association to the senior who has been selected b the graduating class as having the Most School Spirit . All alumni are invited to attend all of Grady's dances and are given special cards which admit them free of charge. ln expressing our thanks and appreciation to these fine men and women, The Orator would like to extend an added handshake to those who have already proven themselves to be society's leaders. l 'L Superintendent, Dr. Ira Jarrell, admires shiny school bell. President Fred Nash presides over meeting of other officers. ll. to r.l Mrs. John Ezell, Mrs. John Mann, Mrs. Edgar Morse, Mr. L. N. Du- Bard, Mr. Jack lsenberg.
