See you at the locker' IS a rather com mon phrase heard in the halls as hurried students dash off to a tar away class on some distant floor This last desperately bellowed remark 1S seldom heard but al ways understood as 1t ranks h1gh among the important facts 1n the s1lent high school code This 1S v1tal and necessary tor every student to know since the locker serves not only as a storage space for books but also as a meeting place as well gather at the same tam1l1ar spot each day and d1scuss the latest news while gazing at the mater1al which decorates the locker door Although this pract1ce 1S a much taken tor granted one 1t is one of the t w really treasured memor1es which will re main long enough for a generat1on of child ren or grandchildren to hear about Who knows? at the day's end, As the day progresses, the end of each class period terminates the daily schedule for many students. Books and homework materials are gathered to gether, and the departure- begins. Crowds may congregate and exchange the recent gossip, contented sweet- hearts meet, and numerous others alone, in pairs, or groups are seen trudging across the field toward the north or joining the stampede to the waiting bus facing southward or add- ing confusion to the scene by withdraw- ing their jalopies and limosines from their daily resting place. Horns blast, voices yell out the last minute farewells, feet scamper on the pave- ment, and then tranquility prevails ex- cept for the usual whizzing by of cars on Evergreen. Inside the school, however, the end of the school day marks the beginning of many extracurricular activities, or responsibilities which must be corn- pleted before the evening arrives. Many remain behind to attend a meeting, to do extra research for a project, or just to finish a discussion. The traffic to the phone booth slows down, and a few weary students wait patiently on the bench in the main office to see the as- sistant principal or a department head. ln the journalism room, a few last at- tempts are made to meet the deadline. Perhaps the Student Council is decor- ating the cafeteria for a dance while gay banter bounces back and forth. The janitors join in the fun as they donate their advice and the tools of their trade to the worthy cause.
