E Mike Jackson, President of the Ashland FFA Chapter receiving the NATIONAL CHAPTER GOLD EMBLEM AWARD from Pete Kunston, National FFA Vice Presi- dent, at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Some of the highlights of the Ashland FFA chapter last year were: preparing and exhibitin crops and livestock at the Atlantic Rural Exposition in Richmond, preparing teams am? competing in local and State contests, crops, livestock and forestry judging teams. The chapter had four State Farmer candidates at the annual convention. It sent two delegates to the National FFA Convention, and put on exhibits and demonstrations at the State Safety Convention in Richmond. The chapter sponsored a county-wide forestry program and a program of farm safety and wildlife conservation. Ray Wood from the Ashland FFA chapter was awarded Star Farmer for Central Vir- ginia, he also received the State Soil and Water Management award, the highest State honor in this type of work. FFA Wins National Award tor Third Year The Ashland Chapter of Future Farmers of America received first place among the T94 cha ters in the State at the annual convention held in Blacksburg. The program was then judged by the National Board ofthe F,F,A, and awarded the Gold Emblem for the third year in succession at the National Covention in Kansas City, Missouri, The awards were made on the basis of an outstanding program of activities carried out by the chapter and for outstanding leadership. Dramatics Club Trains Students for Acting One of the small but interesting clubs is the Dramatics Club. It is organized to promote interest in drama. Members are voted into it on their acting or artistic ability. Try-outs for membership in it were held in the spring. This past year the clubcrresented a play entitled Good Morning Glory . The comedy was ilariously enioye by all . Also it purchased Dramatic Club pins tor the old members. The theme of the Dramatics Club float was taken from an old melodrama, Dirty Work at the Crossroads . Unfortunately, due to the weather and illness, the parade was canceled.
