Ashland opened the season with the starting five from last year but the odds were against the team which lacked height, speed and reserves. Speedy Mills was the leading scorer of the team and ranked with the leaders in the Suburban League. Every member of the team played creditable basketball but Ashland won only two games. Opposite page — Front row: John Jones, Hugh Campbell, Coach Pollock, Ben Hutche- son, Billy Babcock. Standing: Jack Stevenson, Ned Taylor, Linwood Attkisson, Paul Reid. The first junior varsity team ever formed at Henry Clay High School was organized in basketball this year. Every member of the team hustled and had real basketball spirit. Lack of practice dimmed their chances against their op- ponents who had a gymnasium in which to practice. In the middle of the sea- son, B. Reid and L. Attkisson became members of the varsity. Every game the team played was close but Ashland never came out on top. The team gave good account of itself in every game it played. 43
