My work as an airline hostess took -ne to all parts of .Vt 5 the world. It was June, 1968, and the airliner was landing 4 ll in Mamatuska, Alaska. After seeing all the passengers off, Q2 I found that I would have a whole day on my hands. QU? ' As I was browsing through the city enjoying the fresh I ' spring air, I suddenly saw. someone coming toward me who - looked very familiar. Oh, don't be silly, I told myself, '- you don't know anyone in Alaska. Then suddenly she spoke. Q, Q, Caroline Greszler! Then I recognized her. It was an old LT? friend from my graduating class in 1948, Carolyn Schlechter. .Q-5 1 We breathlessly talked over old times. I learned that Car- Y' I olyn and her husband had moved to Alaska so that she could 'law gather material for her new novel about the new Alaskan ' farming frontier. I was astounded to realize that Alaska if I -b J. could be good farming country. Carolyn insisted that I come with her to see her farm. After a good country dinner, I made my way back to the liner, wondering what the rest of my . sg -1 Y ,nr v we 1 47 ,, - classmates were doing. ,, N . . I - Mfg The next stop was in oregon. As I stepped from the , 5 plane, I noticed one of the new jet racers curcling the field '.-- I I before coming in for a landing. I watched it until it land- U ,l X ed. who should emerge from the cockpit but Jerry Currier, ' A ,v another graduate of '4B. So Jerry had become a pilot. I ' gk sopke to him. He told me that he would soon be entering a i'L :j':f race between the planets. He was the entering contestant l to represent the earth. After a long talk, I wished him the 'E' i.. best of luck, and returned to my plane. ' , ' -V S X t ile? On the passenger list, I found that our ship would be 'SRX X , sff carrying the American All-Star baseball team. The players . gigs laughed and joked among themselves. One of them flashed a 9- X,-. lxi' smile at ITIS. I instantly recognised that smile and those 'C ts- ' teeth! Harold Leirnbach was one of my passengers. He told ' N lv me that he was now the pitcher for the team. 1, ,sf Q,-Q,-'52 As I checked off the passengers on my list I received 1- - f the jolt of my life. Professor Carl W. Christman, Chief .--2,-f :I-' N Scientist of Harvard University, was also a passenger. Also , X 5 on the list was Janet R. Coultrip of the Coultrip School for Q -fm. Nurses ln Chicago. Could they be the same Carl and Janet P122 'iiLSil, Q,e who had graduated with me in 1948? ,Ii-z' QL.. After the customary excitement of the takeoff everyone Y q If settled back to relax, and I fould that my discoveries had 5 ,, N been correct. The four of us had a long visit as the miles in , flew by. Janet had started a basketball league for nurses I I 1 She was now traveling to Salt Lake City to marry her fiance, A I g2g'vj,,Q-5, a famous surgeon. Carl was giving a series of lectures on 5 QI the ultra-superatoznic age. It seemed as if everyone of our I?-A gil ' Iliff : class members whom I had met so far had fared well. gf, , 5 WV .' l' tm' mf? ig- Carl, Janet, and the still smiling Zackie got off one ,f?'m5Qe., '-jeffd by one. The most advertised seemed XTUW ldap? to be a shop run by Marie Elnor, uthe woman who makes the ff,l'? stars beautiful. Not to let the movie stars get ahead of 4, 5 ? me, I decided to go there. I found the owner to be a small 3 , woman with with long, beautifully curled blond hair. It ylv 1 1j',..A was Marie Perkins. Marie told me that Lois Steele was now in Nj: jg Hollywood. She had made a name for herself in the dress 3 designing business. Her drawing of high school days had I certainly paid off. Marie called Lois to tell her that I S f was in town. Even though they were rushed with business, . K ,, ,Q they took time off to talk to an old friend. When I left I,...l.. ., them, I had, not only a new hairdo, but an original dress 17 5 from a nationally known designer. lggr' R ' 1 rx.-372: The plane stopped for a short time in Kansas City, but ff m' '- ft: it was long enough for me to find another old friend, Edith Rf: E fg., Pete. She had married a tall, lanky cattle rancher and had Q' 'Q moved West. She told me that ranch life was very invigor- j jj- . ating and quite different from high school life in Henrietta. 4. '. , She asked me about the others from our graduating class , ff. v and I told her of my recent meetings. Then it was time to f 0 , g be off. The next stop was Albrequerque, New Mexico. FE' K f A 'ff I' A Q I bought a newspaper, and splashed all over the front 'J' 11,2 f I page was a story about some new purchases by the Atenov Oil ' and Diamond Company. Pictures of the owner and his wife ' ,f ' I, were settled in prominent places. Right away I knew that A , blond hair and turned-up nose. Veneta Hozalski had actually 'QQ3, caught her rich man with a big black mustache! I called on ,g'Lq 'f 'J Veneta and found her the same friendly person she had always been. She told me how happy she was now. Her husband cared ' , W. for her so much that he named his business after her. The QNX g,. name Atenov was actually Veneta spelled backwards. Y ' Nw ' nl A g New I knew what all the Seniors were doing but two, . 13 AAQZN Arlene and B111 Looking further through the paper, I found 'H.4 ,.A' what Arlene had become. There was an insurance advertise- Q, x ment. Recognising the name as that of Arlene's high school ff 5. KW boy friend, I decided to follow it up. Sure enough, when iff ,gig I rang the doorbell, Arlene answered. Several blond, curly- .1 59' -Ia. ., 4 1, iw . headed, little children peaked around the door at me. After a long visit, I was again on my way. In a Texas airport, I noticed numerous advertisements of a famous grapefruit grove, Grapefruit, oranges, and bananas grown tree-ripe. Get the best from the best ranch in Texas, the ranch where the fruit is grown by the new A Atomic Method - Bill Bonnett.H Bill must have inherited ffxx his grandfather's ranch. How I knew what had becone of all A my graduating class. I visited B1ll's ranch and was greeted ' f by a tanned, brown-haired Bill with as many muscles as-had made him the terror of the Boys' Boxing groxp in high school.
