H2 57 Thirteen frolicking Freshmen skipped 'down ig the steps of room A-l on September 5, 1944, to gay' begin their careers as full-fledged high school 23, students. After the first qualms caused by the gf new teachers and classes wore off,thenFresh1esn 150, elected Carolyn Schlechter to lead them, with f-.? Carl Christman as Vice-Presidentg Donald Lamver- f 55 meyer was chosen to keep the records, and Janet mfg Coultrip, to take care of the money. Ei The Sophomores initiated the probationers into the realms of high school on October 6. Hallowe'en came and found three of the Freshman , x boys turning cook at a Hallowe'en party at the Boy Scout Farm. Oh! Those half-raw hamburgers! Arlene Holzhauer entertained the class at ' ,,H her home for a Christmas party. . Wayne Stayton fhl moved away during Christmas vacation, leaving 3, the class with twelve members. On Nay ll, 1945, 2 the Freshmen sponsored a Spring dance with John- , QQ ny Jackson's orchestra. MON Before they knew it, the year was over, gxwy vacation passed, and they were returning to Hen- ffwf rietta High as Sophomores. June Gerber and Wayne fwtj Stayton brought the class to fourteen. Donald -gy' Lamvermeyer was elected as President, Carolyn .Fwd Schlechter as Vice-President, Janet Coultrip as Secretary, and Arlene Holzhauer as Treasurer. Initiating the Freshmen on September 28 was T , the first social event of the school year. Then came the Hallowe'en party which was held on Oct- ober 51, 1946. About this time, Donald Lamver- ,gQ0'J, meyer transferred to Oberlin. This left the class with thirteen members. Jerry Currier was A t -mm U elected President. The big word around Henrietta for a long time. Then finally the day came when the word Basketball could become more than just a word. It could be acted out. About the last of October, eleven Henrietta youths showed up in the gym for the first practice, under the watchful eye of their coach, Mr. Wagoner. The boys' practice and training showed up at their first game with B1rmingham's downfall. The boys went through the season quite successfully win- ning five out of eleven games. with the season over the Panthers concen- trated on their tournament game with Brownhelm on February 28. Henrietta went to Lorain in high spirits with but one thought - to beat Brownhelm, Lmch to their joy, they did and were allowed to play three more tournament games. They were not as lucky this, time, for they lost all three games.
