In this way we will try to express our appreciation for the love and devotion she has shown during her fifty-one years of teaching in the Henrietta Schools. In appreciation of all she has done, we wish to print her favorite poem, L'Envoi by Rudyard Kipling. When earth's last picture is painted, and the tubes are twisted and dried, When the oldest colors have faded, and the youngest critic has died, We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it-lie down for an aeon or two, Till the Master of All Good Workmen shall set us to work anew! And those that were good shall be happy, they shall sit in a golden chairg They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comets' hairg They shall find real saints to draw from-Magadalene, Peter, and Paul, They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all! And only the Master shall praise us, and only the Master shall blame, And no one shall work for money, and no one shall work for fame, But each for the joy of the working, and each, in his separate star, Shall draw the Thing as he sees It for the God of Things as They Are! WZ Z44?fi,NK The good citizen finds that true happiness in one's life de- pends upon his relationship with those with whom he is associated. It depends upon the little kindnesses, pleasant words, genial smiles, a friendly letter, good wishes, and good deeds. It consists of doing the little things -the little jobs well! As students, you have been good citizens, and we shall be looking forward to your becoming the best of citizens in the worid of tomorrow. Sincerely yours, W - F. W. Richardson, Supt. E' C,.. After a few fights they arrived at the ranch with straw in their hair and all over their clothes. They all had to do a bit of shining up. Then they were served hot dogs, baked beans, potato chips, pickles, cookies, coffee and cokes. I think everyone went back for a second helping. Then they gathered around a bon-fire and sang songs. They were really feeling good after such a delicious snack and decided to use some of their energy in learning to square dance. They were all tangled up until Mr. Kelly came and straightened them out. They were again served with pop corn, candy and cokes. Feeling their energy coming back they started another square dance. This time they did well and learned a lot. By ten o'clock most of them were rather tired, but not too tired to give fifteen rahs to the Rosses for such a wonderful party. They climbed back into the truck and started home. They were very cold in that open truck, but were warmed by the memories of a very pleasant party. FOOTBALL DANCE The football boys and their dates were honored with a dance given at the' country club by the American Legion on November 20, 1948. Everyone danced and had a wonderful time. Refreshments were cokes, sandwiches, and cookies. FOOTBALL BAN QUET One of the outstanding annual events was the football banquet held December 8, 1948 for members ofthe football squad, their dates, their parents, the faculty and Bearcat boosters. Darlene Rice, sophomore student, was crowned queen. Her court consisted of her escorts Bud Powell and Earnest Allison, Betty Ross, Senior candidate, and her escort Bobby Holloway, Woody Moore, junior Candidate, and her escort Eddie Morrison. After Darlene was crowned, members of the Choral Club and a boys' trio sang Why Do I Love You . Mr. Hurley acted as toastmaster introducing the following speakers: Earnest Allison, Mr. McGill, Mr. Young, and Mr. Richardson. Mr. Richardson expressed our appreciation to Mrs. Maddox for giving the banquet and to the mothers who prepared the food. Paul Bullinger presented Mr. Young and Mr. McGill with lovely gifts, tokens of their gratitude to the coaches. The speaker of the evening was Reverend C. L. Bowen, who gave a splendid speech. The entire school is grateful to Mrs. Maddox for being so generous in her kind- ness to give the banquet. It was a great success and shall always be remembered by those who attended. F. F. A. DANCE One of the most successful dances of the year was given December 9, 1948 by the F. F. A. boys. These boys were kind enough to invite their dates and the F. H. A. girls. Everyone joined in the round dancing and square dancing. Sandwiches, cookies and cokes were served. All those who came to the dance had a wonderful time. CHRISTMAS PARTY Everyone's Christmas spirits were given a boost by the delightful party given by the seniors December 14, 1948. The gymnasium was decorated with candles, green and red crepe paper and a lighted Christmas tree. The party began with everyone singing Christmas carols. Then some of the seniors and their dates danced while others played games. Everyone took part in the dancing when there was a Paul Jones. The highlight of the party was when Santa Claus came. Incidently, Mr. Roper was Santa Claus and his helpers were Gwen Williams and Betty Ross. The seniors and their dates felt as though they were little children again when they opened their presents and found them to be dolls, walking toys, guns, and candy. They were served refreshments of sandwiches, cake, punch, candy and cookies. All of these were delicious. After eating they resumed their dancing and playing of games. The seniors were proud to say that the party was a great success. BAND PARTY The members of the band gathered together December 16. This time it was not for a rehearsal. The band members brought their dates to take part in a swell party. They played all kinds of games. Record after record was played during the entire evening and someone was dancing all the time. The band mothers served sand- wiches, fritos, cookies, and cokes. Robert Waggoner, band president, presented Mr. Settle with a shirt and a tie, a Christmas present from the members of the band. NEW YEAR'S PARTY The seniors and their dates gave the old year a happy farewell and the new year a hearty welcome at a watch party given by Celia Evans and Peggy Boyles. Blue lights and a blazing fireplace held everyone in a dancing mood. Every type of dancing was enyoyed for example: square, schottische, put your little foot, Paul jones, girl's tag and even boy's tag. ' Cokes were served from the bar at different times. Each person drinking as many as they liked. Twelve o'clock found the seniors and others who came singing Auld Lang Sync and shouting Happy New Year . Everyone had a wonderful time and began the New Year feeling happy and gay. BAND CONCERT The Henrietta High School Band gave a concert February 8, 1949 in the High School auditorium. Some of their numbers were High School Cadets, Clown Band Contest, Bartlesville Boggie and other Marches and overtures. Special features on the program were a bass solo by Robert Waggoner, a piano 'solo by jeanetta Moser, a vocal duet by Joyce Hill and Florence Bragg and a vocal solo by Don Lyles. Many people said the concert was one of the best they had ever heard. We are proud of our band for all they have accomplished. VALEN TIN E'S PARTY The seniors were the host and hostesses for a wonderful Valentine Party given February 20, 1949. The high school gym was decorated with large red valentines and letters on lace dollies spelling Valentine's. The covering for the refreshment table was covered in red valentines. Dancing was enjoyed by all who came. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly came to teach them how to square dance. I think everyone enjoyed this even those who were watching. ' The senior room mothers served refreshments of sandwiches, pickles, olivesinecans, punch, cookies and candy. Valentines were given to each person for souveniers of a most enjoyable party. JUNIOR PARTY February 27, 1949, the junior Class entertained themselves with a party. Some say that there was a greater variety of entertainment at this partyithan at any party they had ever been to. The boys divided up into teams and played basketball. Having worked up an appetite they felt it necessary to eat. After this the girls chose their teams and played gir1's basketball. Then they all ate again. They were ready to dance then and spent the remainder of the party in dancing. SPANISH PARTY Friday, February 27, 1949, the Spanish Club gave a party out at the hut. The members and those invited entertained themselves by playing cards and dominoes and dancing. They roasted weiners over the fireplace and ate hot dogs, potato chips and drank cokes. BAND PARTY If you think the members of the band can't make much noise without their horns, you should have been on the bus that took them to Sandy Beach, March 4. I'm sure you would have thought differently. But then who wouldn't have been noisey on a skating party. We climbed out of the bus and spread all our lunches together and ate. What I mean, we had plenty to eat: Sandwiches, cookies, fritos, potato chips, olives, pickles and cold drinks.'Then we began skating. We all got our share of falls, but I think Mr. Settle had more than his share. Gee, it was a lot of fun anyway, falls or no falls. fillet . Kfff, XX' Nad' x aj lf , xx: 5 9' 'CV'- , 'ig-Air...
